@HazelEyes: yes we had to start all over. But the first bit went quicker because she did have the basics down. So maybe it wasn't a total waste trying to train early, but it was hella stressful and frustrating for us. My DD is very stubborn though.

I found it actually pretty okay PTing with a newborn in the house...for the most part we weren't going out and about too much so it was ideal in the sense that we were already housebound.

Just shy of 28 months. I did it after I had another baby, so it does add an additional layer of difficulty--I was home alone with both girls during the day and it was hard to balance the needs of my baby with watching the cues of LO1 and getting her to a bathroom in time. However, it still only took 5 days before she had it down 95%, and since then she's progressed through the other blocks and now initiates going (I don't have to ask her) and can go houuuuurs without peeing, which is nice when we are out and about.

Oh and I'm 19 weeks. We potty trained early cause I didn't want to wait till after the baby. And cleaning poopy cloth diapers was killing me.

We've just potty trained now at 22 months. It's going OK but not stellar after 3 weeks, still lots of accidents and I have to tell him to go most of the time. But I still prefer it to diapers so I'm OK with that.

silly question but what does OCPT stand for? Potty training obviously but... ? I'm just starting to think about it with LO (he is 17 months) so I need to start my research.

She was over 3 and OCPT worked. I did feel terrible because she is very much against waiting that late to do it but it still worked for us. It probably took 3 weeks total for herbefore we really considered her trained. She still has the occasional accident because she hates to stop playing to go potty.

I would personally not ever want to PT with a newborn since most likely the older one will need to go as soon as you start feeding or changing baby's diaper. Also I have no patience at all when I am sleep deprived. We did have some regression but it wasn't too bad--maybe lasted two weeks and only at home.

I was about 25-28 weeks pregnant when we trained.

We didn't use OCPT, but we waited for signs of readiness we trained him a few months before he turned 3. It was super easy and he had it down in 2 days. No regressions, accidents or anything.

@Charm54: So did you start from scratch the second time? Block I etc. And how was it with a newborn? The baby is due at 26 months, so I feel like if I don't do it now its going to be closer to 30 months before it will be feasible to do it.

DD was 20 months when I started - I was 20 weeks pregnant also and wanted to do it before the baby came.

She caught on pretty quickly and we had one really good month. Then she regressed (a lot) and it became a huge battle. I tried everything for weeks and she made zero progress. I was hella pregnant and so.over.it. So I threw in the towel until after the baby was born.

We tried again when she was 26 months and the second time was SO MUCH EASIER, even with a newborn around. So in retrospect I wish I would have saved my sanity and waited until she was a bit older. I won't even bother trying to train Dd2 until after 2

That's not to say it won't work easily so young for you, but don't be discouraged and don't drive yourself crazy if it doesn't.

She was 22 months. It went pretty well - we had some issues with holding poop for a couple weeks but that was the only hiccup. I can't remember the last time she had an accident.

So my little man will be 22 months next weekend so I was planning on PT over MLK weekend. I'm 20 weeks pregnant with little sis and would prefer not to do this when I"m too huge to maneuver around during spring break at the end of March (besides, its his bday--that doesn't feel like a fun way to celebrate. A big boy bed maybe.) I also feel like if I don't do it before little sis comes doing it with a newborn sounds like its own nightmare, and OCPT recommends earlier anyway. I get there may/will be a regression with the baby, but I just wanted to see when others used OCPT.

Also, I"ve been asking DH to read the book for, ohhh months now and he hasn't, so I don't think he gets my reasoning on why I want to do this now.
