We went to DW when LO1 was 3.5 years old and LO2 was almost 1. The 14+ hour drive wasn't so fun, but my oldest did really well surprisingly. We tagged along with my in-law's who had already made plans and stayed in a condo. Disney World was so much fun for LO1. LO2 tagged along and was happy as long as he had a tray full of puffs in front of him. Disney is also very accommodating of food allergies, and it was a special treat for LO1 to be able to eat so many different foods. DH wants to go back every year.

@Chaosmaven: LOL! Great mental image and I'm still so excited about your BFP!

I would love to take my DD to Disney World but it is way out of our budget for the next few years.

What a timely question, DH and I are in the car right now driving back from an overnight trip to WDW! We live 3 hours away and we have FL resident annual passes. And I loooove to go as much as possible. Baby due in August so I'm not planning to go any in the fall/winter, but I have a getting we'll probably go in the spring someone.

We are going in September! DD will be a little older than 2.5, we wanted to go once before we had to pay for her. I finally allowed myself to start planning this trip, as we've been TTC for a while and now I knew we would be able to go.... and then I got my BFP. So now I will be waddling around Magic Kingdom at 28 weeks, eating all the ice cream!

@SugarplumsMom: We stayed at the Howard Johnson the first week of Dec and it was great. 10 min walk, just as close as the disneyland hotel and no where near $800. The park was at a great crowd level, at the most we waited 20 mins for rides, most less.

We're going in October. D will be a little over 2.5. Can't.WAIT. I think we're only going to do Magic Kingdom for a day or two, plus Universal (that's more for me - I need to see Diagon Alley).

We were thinking about this summer since he'll be free (around 2.5 years old) but I think it would be too overwhelming for him. So we're planning on next summer when he is 3.5.

Oh and we'd go to disneyworld!

I lived in OC when I was little so we often went just as part of a regular weekend when I was little. Keep in mind that I'm so old that it was in the era of "E" tickets... You paid by ride.

We took our girls when #1 was 4.5 and #2 was a few months off from turning 3. Both were potty trained and able to spend 10-12 hours in the park each day. It was a magical week, but we won't be doing it again for awhile! It was in the mid 90's mist days, so the pool was awesome.

We went in November for less crowds and we rented a house off VRBO. Very economical and we had a swimming pool! It was in the high 80's low 90's most days, so the pool was great.

We're planning on doing DL in August when dd is 8 months old. Although technically I want to do CA adventures so I can go on the little mermaid ride. I grew up in southern CA and while I no longer live there my family does, so I have a good excuse to visit.

@yoursilverlining: ugh yes, if DL is anything like DW at Christmas I would highly advise against it.... We went to MK once on Christmas Day and it was RIDICULOUS... never again. :meh:

Early December is great though, crowds are small and it's still all decorated for Christmas!

@SugarplumsMom: December is the busiest times of the year at Disneyland, so that's why the hotel prices are insane. If you're thinking about going near Christmas/New Years I would strongly suggest looking at a different time of the year. We went at Christmas expecting it to be crazy, but it was INSANE. Like, park was full and shut down entry by 9am, several rides *broke* and were shut down by the fire Marshall. You couldn't move anywhere. Total waste of $$$. I would try to go some other time of the year!
With Disneyland, I wouldn't mind staying off-property either - DW is like a huge resort but it isn't the same at DL, I don't think you miss out as much by staying off-property at DL.

We've gone twice with our son, once when he was 2 years 10 months and again last year when he was 3 years 10 months...we like to go in September and we visit WDW since the flight is shorter for us.

First time was just okay, but last year, OMG, he loved it. He even gave Mickey a big hug and high fived all the other characters, where as the year before, he was fearful of them.

We have stayed offsite and get our package via Costco, not sure if they have DL options, it might be worth it, you can customize it and add the options you need.

We will take DD when she is 4.5, LO2 will be 2.5. I don't want to miss the magic and I think 4 is a perfect age to start. We plan on going every second year....if I was only going to go once I would wait until kids were 9 and 7 probably.

I started going when I was 4 and I remember so much ....I think I've been there over 15 times as a kid and adult....I just love everything about Disney World so much!!!! That being said it will be a big trip for us too coming from Canada so we will have to skimp in other areas to make it happen.

@SugarplumsMom: what hotel were you looking at (and what time of year??) you can get some pretty good deals on site, even in peak season. We've stayed in Art of Animation for around $100 a night and my personal favourites , Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans Riverside for around $160.

I've stayed off site and on and both have their perks, but when I have kids I will definitely be staying on! It's so convenient with the bus system to go back and forth to your hotel, especially mid day for a nap and swim. When you're off site you're pretty much at the park for the whole day which can make for a looonnnggg hot day for kids (and adults too!). Just my 2 cents

It will be a big trip for us too...airfare, tickets, lodging, food, etc. I want to go when DD1 is 5/6 so DD2 will be about almost 3. I went for the first time when I was 18 and I loooves it!

And oh, Disney World! :)

@SugarplumsMom: I've heard from many DW addicts that it's so worth paying the extra to stay in a DW resort because of all the perks!
We will likely do a weeklong Florida trip. A few days will be beach days!

It'll be a big trip for us and plan on spending a few nights there (just not IN a Disney hotel, I checked and ouch!). Maybe when she's 4 or 5? I want her to be a big girl and more independent. Hmmmm.

DD1 was a few months shy of 2 yo on her first trip. She doesn't remember it, but loves seeing the pics now!

We got our annual pass last year when the girls were 5 yo and almost 2 yo. It was definitely more for my eldest, but the little one caught on to everything quick and she loves it and talks about it a lot. I've gone to DL with her alone while her sister was in school and she does great. She's now a few months shy of 3 yo...

I say, take them at least once before they turn 3... at least they are still free  Disney is expensive!

E was 14 months and had a great time. She fell asleep on Pirates, but enjoyed several of the other rides, and loved seeing the parade and the characters. Every time we go we do a character breakfast, which she totally loves, and she gives each character a hug and talks to them.
