I left LO with my husband overnight at 5 mos. for a business trip and for a couple date nights/weddings, my parents put her down to sleep and we slept at their house so we were there when she woke up.

I think you should go! I was nervous the first overnight away and though I had a hard time falling asleep, once I was out, I slept so soundly I almost missed my alarm! Also-what a great husband! Enjoy the show!

LO was 2 months when my cousin had a fancy ladies only birthday weekend at our local Gaylord hotel so my DH insisted that I take a break away from being a SAHM while he was in charge. I was gone from Sat morn to Sunday evening. It was fun but I really missed my LO and could not sleep at all. I was still on her midnight feeding schedule.

@grizz: your mom sounds awesome!! You should totally go and do your very best to relax and get a good night's rest (and enjoy your show)!

My LO was 7 months when I first left him overnight with DH but it wasn't until he was 22 months that we both left him overnight and my MIL watched him. He always sleeps super well for other people...so maybe your LO will do the same!

I would definitely go! I would have left LO with my parents without hesitation at this age. I'm sure your parents know how he is at night, but I bet they don't care! They're probably excited to spend so much time with him, regardless of sleep issues :) Enjoy yourself, you deserve it!

Dude- go. I'm jealous. And if you think you won't be able to sleep, take something. Enjoy your time away, relish in the sleep. If your parents know what they're in for, its fine. It might be a tough night for him/them, but you need a break and deserve it. And everyone will survive. Think about how nice it will be for you & hubs to reconnect, alone!

How sweet of your husband! It sounds like a well deserved break on your part -- and since you fully trust your parents, that much the better!

We'll be leaving our (then) 8 mo DS next month for 4 nights/5 days with my parents and while I'm nervous (despite knowing they'll take just as good of care of him as I would...), I know the break will make me an even better mom to C once we get back because of the rest and relaxation. I also know the time away will be great for DH and I's relationship. I'd encourage you to enjoy the time away, try not to stress, and relax with a full night's sleep. You deserve it. :)

@grizz: my LO was a really awful sleeper for months and we let both my in laws AND my mom keep our baby overnight. Several times. We trust our parents completely and they all assured us they didn't mind missing sleep for a night or two to give us a break.

It was glorious. I really believe in the "village" concept if raising a baby, and honestly....Americans are way too hung up on doing everything ourselves. Which is fine if it's working for you, but I've read your posts and I know you could use a night to relax and SLEEP.

Don't feel guilty. Your parents know how to take care of a baby for a night and they will survive 1 night of no sleep, I promise.

I haven't done it yet, but I think you and C will be fine! Your parents know what they are in for, and what they are doing (they raised you, after all). Doing it for one night is a lot different than 6 months.

That said.... I haven't even had anyone beside me and DH put my LO down for a nap, much less bed time! The only family we have nearby, therefore the only person who sees her on a really regular basis, is my BIL, who is great, but he's your typical 28 yo single guy. He is great at playing with her but not really a diaper changing, putting down to bed kind of babysitter. We have left her a total of 3 times-- once with DH's grandmother while C was napping, for like, 1 hour; once for a couple of hours with MIL over Christmas, when MIL gave her a bottle (first one not from me or DH!), but when she tried to put her down for a nap she freaked out; once with MIL after C was down for bed for the night. It's a combination of control issues on my part and lack of opportunity anyway.

We haven't yet, Jack is 4 months. My in-laws and mom know he wakes every 2 hours and keep pestering me to keep him. One day soon we'll let them, I feel bad he doesn't sttn but they keep saying they raised kids and one sleepless night won't kill them and a full night of sleep will do us a world of good so hopefully soon we'll listen to them and just pull the trigger.

DS will be almost 7 months old when we spend the weekend away from him. He'll be staying with my parents and they have already hired help for during the day. I'm nervous about being away from him, but I figure this is something we all have to deal with eventually as parents. At some point we'll all have to trust someone else not only to care for our LO's, but also to be selfless enough to have their routines disrupted for a short amount of time.

6 months and we left for a 4 day vacation. He might surprise you, and sleep fine for her! My son always sleeps better when we are away for the night. I would just make sure your parents know his sleeping isn't the best and that they are ok with it.
