When he was 22 months old or so, we left the restaurant. It was A&W. He was super tired and acting out. He wouldn't sit still and was making a scene. We were chancing it by stopping for a meal. We should have just eaten in the car. He only acts up when he's overly tired.

DS is 20 months and we haven't had to yet. He was fussy once during a meal, so we just quickly ate and was able to get out of there within an hour. It was near bedtime, so we were the ones pushing. As long as there's food he's a happy camper :D

So far, not yet at 13 months. He has gotten upset a few times before, but nothing that said, we gotta go now!!

Lately, if he's upset, I pull him out of his high chair and sit him in my lap. It usually works, but once he's bored, he wants us to walk around.

At home, he's starting to get upset when I tell him a stern no and starts crying so we're starting to be more strict with him. When mommy says no, it means no! While before, no was just another word that came out of mommy's mouth that had zero meaning. He would usually laugh at me when I said no. That boy... lol

18 months. It was yesterday and NOT fun.

DS threw a fit while we were at buybuybaby because he wanted to run around with a baby doll stroller. DH took him away from it because he was driving it into people and basically tripping them. Que end of world meltdown. Ugh.

Never, because I knew we had issues with going to restaurants so we stopped going out to eat. We are slowly getting back into it, with places that are either counter service or bring out your food very quickly, lol. It's the long wait times that are a killer for my son.

About 19-20m? We didn't leave but my mom came and picked him up because she was shopping nearby. Of course she said he was a SAINT with her. Of course, with grandma, at a loud mall, he's a saint. In a quiet restaurant with mama, he was theeeee devil.

We are 2.5 years old.... Consciously I can not remember we ever really had to leave because of a tantrum / misbehavior, but I could have suppressed the memory lol, From what I remember the most we would do would be to finish our meal quickly and get the check and leave. For misbehavior I just had to give him time outs multiple times. Sigh.

Not yet. He's 2. The worst public tantrum he's thrown was a few weeks ago leaving daycare and he didn't want to go. He was literally kicking and screaming as I carried him to the car. The director had to carry my 4 mo old to my car for me! Quite embarrassing! But that's been an isolated event...so far...

We went out to breakfast a couple months ago and had to leave because she was melting down, and this weekend had to leave a store because she was throwing a fit. Both times were because we mis-read her cues and she got overtired....but yeah, our girl has a temper.

@Baby Boy Mom: Pretty much the same here. One of us occasionally has to take him outside for a minute or two to "reset" but a) we've never let it get to a tantrum, b) when we're outside we talk to him about being calm and quiet inside and c) we've never had to outright leave.

LO is 2 years 9 months and we haven't had to leave any restaurant bc of her behavior. She's happy to stay in her high chair and eat. If I know it's going to be a long meal (out with family to a place that takes awhile) I bring books or some tiny toys so she's just not sitting there for a long period of time after she's done eating. As she gets older I would like her to sit and talk with us and enjoy the meal so at this point we don't do iPad at restaurants bc it's not something we want her to come to expect when we go out to eat

@Baby Boy Mom: this is my technique as well. Has worked for us so far, 19 months in.

I left once before food was served (the rest of the party stayed) simply because it was already 9 pm and I was mad that we had taken so long to decide where to go and get ourselves there. I was worried I would have a meltdown if she did, so I took her home. But I don't consider that leaving due to a meltdown, but leaving to avoid one. And that is my secret...

In restaurants this first happened around 13 months. At the moment we're taking a break from going out to eat with him because he has a huge fit when nearby tables have their food and ours hasn't arrived yet, and if I bring a snack he'll fill up on that and then not be hungry for his food and get super antsy.

It's never happened anywhere else though. I don't take him on big grocery shopping trips though, and if I sense a tantrum coming I immediately head for the check out.

We never have and our oldest is 2 years 4 months. She has thrown horrible tantrums that can last hours at home (or at other people's homes), for well over a year now, but when we're out and about she's too interested in her surroundings and asking me 1 zillion questions, to have one.

@lawbee11: we're in the throes of trying to instill respectful restaurant behavior right now - he is 2.5 He doesn't sit in a high chair at home anymore, so we left him sit on a seat yesterday at a restaurant - it was a local firestone pizza place so there were a lot of kids and not a place where others would get upset about noise... but we're still trying and it's definitely a challenge!!

To answer the question though, we haven't had to leave yet due to a tantrum. He's not much of a tantrum thrower, thank goodness. I've heard three is worse though, so we'll see how it goes.

I think so far the baby stage has been harder. The other day we were at the grocery store when my 3 month old had a total melt down. We got in line right away and some woman cut in front of me! With a toddler and screaming baby. I was ready to just walk out but she let me go when I pointed it out. Our older boy is nearly 2 and has tantrums when we leave fun places but not usually while we are there. He is normally pretty good in restaurants as long as we have enough stuff to entertain him.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I try really hard not to interrupt other people's meals because I remember how annoying it was to eat out while a child at the next table acted up/cried/wouldn't sit still/etc. So we'd definitely get our food to go and leave if all she wanted to do was run around. If she gets fussy now I can usually let her sit in my lap and she's fine, but not sure how long that'll last.

Around 16 months we had to stop eating out, and at 24 months we were successfully able to start eating out again. It's not thy she would necessarily tantrum, but she would refuse to sit in the high chair and would want to run all over the place. Then when we tried to confine her to one place, that would send her into a tizzy.
