@oliviaoblivia: we do the same. totally casual. she hasn't peed or pooped in it once, but she likes sitting on it and crouches over it like she's getting on a ride-on toy that she has. it's pretty funny.

We're planning on trying around 27 months. That is mostly due to my schedule -- things are less hectic for me in the summer. If we were basing things off of DD's readiness, I would think of starting around now (24 months). DD is starting to show interest and readiness, and I'm a little worried that we'll lost our window before 27 months. Only time will tell...

We trained around 23 months. Daytime was easy, naps and night took a few months longer. In my experience, a lot of people have success either shortly before or shortly after the second birthday.

@2PeasinaPod: We trained sitting, but after a couple months he decided he preferred to stand.

When dd was transitioned from formula to cows milk she got very constipated. The thing that came out of that was that we could tell she needed to do #2, very soon maybe around 14/-15 mths she was "poopy" trained. Full on potty training happened about 26-27 mths. It took maybe a week. But once we potty trained her, she also was able to hold it through the night as well.

When she started nursery school In the 2s program she was literally the only one that was potty trained in her class. My mom says she had all 4 of us potty trained at 18 months.

With DS, he just turned 17 mths but I think because he sees his sister on the potty that he is a little more comfortable with the idea. We are letting him take the lead a bit but so far he's showing signs of interest and readiness. He won't go every time in the potty but when we put him on he will try. Were traveling quite a bit so potty training might not be a huge priority or realistic right now. But we'll see!

We are exploring the potty and C likes to sit on it occasionally (usually right after I do) and while he has had success, I am in zero hurry. I am hoping to try closer to age 2.5. (He is 22 months now)

We have introduced the potty but it's just fun. At daycare there is a big push for potty training when he moves to the 2s room.

LO was ready at 20 months- now at 23 months we have maybe 1 accident per week. She was displaying all of the signs and we did the 3 day method that worked wonderfully. I'm still amazed that it was so easy.

@2PeasinaPod: we haven't potty-trained yet (at 25 months) but everything I've read says that it's easier for them to relax and pee while sitting down!

We bought a potty seat (Ikea) and a toilet seat at around 17-18 months just to introduce the idea of potty training. Right now he can go through the routine of going to the washroom (sitting down, making a poo face (hahaha), wiping his bum and penis, flushing the toilet and washing his hands). He loves to join us when we are going to the washroom. We don't regularly sit him on the potty but they do at daycare and I don't think he's actually peed in the toilet at daycare yet. He seems to do all of his business in his crib as soon as he wakes up (or when he's sleeping)! :meh: We will probably tackle on training this summer...or whenever I find the time/energy.

LO is 22 months and I'm in no rush to rush her to potty train. She does sometimes go on the potty at daycare, but without the positive peer pressure of slightly older friends who are in full-on potty training mode, at home she has refuses to sit on the potty. She has a little Elmo potty and is comfortable with it; so we'll reassess when she shows more interest/seems more ready for it.

I just purchased a potty seat at 17 months and plan to start doing what @oliviaoblivia: described. I am not in a rush for him to be fully trained yet, but I figure it can't hurt for him to have to seat there to get familiar with.

My only goal is that he be completely be out of diapers before i birth another child, which i am aiming for him to be close to 33 months when that happens. If he is ready and trained sooner, then great!

We've introduced the potty before bath time at like 14 months, she was very interested in it (2 kids at her in home were potty training.) She's gone several times on the potty but we don't pressure it. She also has started telling us when she's stinky, which is always the case. Potty training seriously scares me...so I'm just going off her cues right now.

DS is 18 months and we haven't started yet either. He can tell us when he's pooping if I ask him, but other than that, he won't let us know. I don't think he's ready yet.

Maybe this is a silly question, but for those of you who have boys, did you have them sit on the potty to go pee?

DD is 23 months and wears undies while we are home and does 50% of her pees in the potty. We still have a ton of accidents, but she immediately runs to the potty and tries to finish on there. She refuses to poop on the potty. We've had the potty "around" since she was 18 months.

My mom is really pushing for potty training because she says all 5 of her kids were completely day and night potty trained (100%) before their second birthdays. Talk about pressure!

We have "started" potty training. DD is 15 months. By started I mean we have one, talk about using it, she sits on it when I go to the bathroom and before her bath. This weekend she peed on it for the first time. I make a psss sound when I'm peeing and I've noticed that she is starting to do it as well. I have no expectations that she'll be trained any time soon, I'm just trying to develop habits and language around the bathroom so that when the time comes it's not a jolt to her system.

DD will be 18m this weekend and she has been telling us when she pee's and poo's for a while now. She asks to sit on the toilet, and we need to get her a seat thing for it, but I am in zero rush to have her potty trained. I think it's great she's showing the recognition of going, but would rather do one successful attempt at it further down the road over any time soon!

Crazy to think some can be potty trained at this age, I can't picture it aaaaat all and am totally okay with her in diapers for a while yet.

Stay in denial that we're getting to that stage :p :)

DD was potty trained by 2.5 ish. I waited until she was ready and the whole process took a day and she has had minimal accidents. DS#1 is just over two and the thought of potty training him is very daunting, I hope it's just as easy as it was with DD. I fully intend to wait because I know more kids who have potty issues because potty training was pushed on them too early, than I would like to admit.

I met a mom who had her 18 month old potty trained. Basically it was like elimination communication but her daughter was able to hold her pee/poo until her mom took her to the potty every 2 hours or so.

My LO is daytime potty trained and we did the 3 day potty method at 24 months. We still put her in a pull up at nap and bedtime. She wakes up dry from naps 99% of the time and maybe 90% of the time overnight...but she sleeps 11.5+ hours at night so I'm in no rush to disturb her nighttime sleep. I read on babycenter that the 3 day potty method is ideal from 18-28 months or something like that. After that other potty training techniques work better. Every kid is so different - so don't feel like you're behind. You're LO is still so little!

Not sure why but I'm feeling like a lot of people start really early around here. (?)

Dh said one of his coworker's kids was potty trained for daytime by 20 months.

Dd is 19 months and so not ready, and from what I've been told 2 years is usually the minimum that *most* children are developmentally ready (although I also know not all parents do it that way, some just pick a time when, say, the family has a break from work.) I know all kids are different, but what gives? I suddenly feel like dd is behind (although I'm fine with that and not looking forward to public restrooms with dd!)

Am I just in denial that we are getting to that stage? :silly:
