@MamaChin: I'm in the same boat! my LO will be 17 months when LO2 comes along, and I'm really not excited about buying another crib!!

our plan so far is to keep #2 in a bassinet/Moses basket and hope that #1 is ready to move sooner rather than later!

We took the plunge and transitioned Chloe today, at almost 22 months.

I want to die. Not nearly as bad as @Mrs. Train: but dear lord can I keep her in a crib until she's 15?

Lo started climbing out just before she turned 2 so we did it then. She did great.... Sleeps great and doesn't realize she's allowed to leave the bed if I'm not in the room :)

Our boys were just over a year when they learned how to climb out. So they went into toddler beds, but it was a battle to get them used to it. I am hoping to keep my daughter in her crib as long as I can. I think I am a little traumatized.

We transitioned shortly before LO turned 2, and I'm struggling with whether we made the right decision. He likes the independence of getting in and out of his bed. He also likes to open the door and call for us at the top of the stairs. He drags bedtime and makes it last for an hour or two before he gets so tired and passes out. I'm attempting to get rid of his nap just so that he can fall asleep easily at night.

We just did it at 25 months and it has been very smooth. No way would I have felt ready at 16 months though! PNP or the like would be fine for the baby for awhile. You could even get a better mattress for it if you want to make it comfier.

You can definitely use a pack n play for #2 if #1 isn't ready to move yet. Our Lo is almost 8 months and has always slept in one.

DS was between 20 and 21 months when we transitioned. We first transitioned to a toddler bed but ended up switching to a floor bed a month of so later. It worked well for us. He slept really well in his crib so we didn't want to transition until he was ready. If you don't think your LO will be ready, you could look for a used crib. They're pretty easy to come by and inexpensive.

We moved when LO was 12 months so I just put her on a mattress on the floor in her new room. She always hated her crib and while I put it up at first just so her room would look semi-similar to our old house, she would whine till I put her on her bed. Now I use a box spring with mattress on top, it's a little higher from any dust on the ground but not too high. Her room is baby proofed so there's not much damage she can do in there when she wakes up and walks around. The other thing that helped was when we moved the crib out and put a full mattress in there instead of a twin, now she loves her bed.

N will be 16 months when #2 is born, is that too young to go in a toddler or twin size bed? I am trying to avoid owning two cribs. Maybe #2 can just sleep in a travel crib or pnp until #1 is ready?
