We left our LO's two weeks ago for an overnight...they were 4 months old at the time. They were with family, and they all stayed at our house. I wouldn't have let them sleep somewhere different. Plus, we were less than 30 minutes away.
Our next time leaving them will be when they are 9 months, when we plan to go away for the weekend.

We haven't left LO, but none of our family lives nearby. Plus, I think I'd rather wait until she is weaned. Maybe when we're home for Christmas next year we can sneak away for a night or two.

My parents left me and my six week year old sister with my grandma for a long weekend to go to HI for a wedding. They had a blast, but my sis still likes to claim that she was "abandoned" when she's not getting her way ;)

DS was 9 wks when my parents took him overnight while we went to a wedding. I thought we would be able to take advantage of the night by actually sleeping but I found that I constantly was waking up! I missed the little guy but don't regret it.

At a year and a half we left her for 2 nights, we were a couple hours away.

A lot of my parents neighbors watch their grandkids overnight fairly regularly and they're all less than 6 months - the parents live 10 minutes to an hour away so not too far.

Perhaps not quite the same, but just before DD turned 2 I had DS and we had a baby sitter with her for the whole night. My Mom was suppose to come but DS came early. I was anxious about it the whole time (that and the fact DS was in the NICU made for a terribly long night). Other than that one night, never.

First time was at 12 months, but we would have done it sooner if we'd had family closer :)
My mom is great with babies, and as long as my LO didn't have a problem taking bottles instead of boob for nighttime feedings, I don't know that I'd have had a lower age limit on sleepovers.

My parents moved to the area when LO was about 16 months old, and since that time they've probably averaged two sleepovers a month, so LO is very comfortable with my parents.

We're actually leaving LO with my parents for a week this summer while we head to Europe for a wedding. He'll be about 28 months. I'm sure he'll fuss occasionally because he misses us, but he is very used to my parents, very used to his space at their house, etc. so I don't really anticipate any major problems. I also think they're planning on taking him to daycare most if not all of the weekdays that they have him, so his routine isn't totally different. (Oh, and so they get a break from having a two year old around all the time!)

@Bookworm: Haha, yeah, i thought that, too...about how much DS is gonna miss me, and is he wondering where I am? But, he was at gramma's house, so I don't think he cared, really.

A couple weeks later, we actually moved IN with my parents (me, him and my cat), so the one night there he did a few weeks before was actually a good warm up into moving. I was leaving my ex, so I was like, "lets go stay at gramma's house!" and he got all excited about another overnight stay with my parents...and we didn't leave for 2 years, lol.

LO was 17 months the first time she had a sleepover with grandma and grandpa. They ended up staying at our house because it's just easier, she sleeps much better in her crib and we have everything that she needs right here, rather then lugging it all to their house. DH and I stayed at a hotel on the beach for the night, it was our chanukah gift to each other.

My mom loved it, she even gifted us another night at a hotel for my birthday so she could have another sleepover. And LO loved it too, when we came home she still wouldn't separate herself from my mom and wanted nothing to do with us. Kind of heartbreaking after spending a whole day away from her, but it was nice to know that she was in good hands and having a good time.

LO stayed overnight with my parents for 1 night (our anniversary) when she was 12 weeks.

She is now almost 10 months and every other Friday she goes to my parent's house and stays overnight. They pick her up from daycare friday afternoon and we pick her up Saturday morning or afternoon. It's really great for everyone! My parents love having her over, she loves seeing them and sleeps well for them, and it's awesome to have a dedicated date night and night alone with my husband. :)

We also did one night, but it was for packing up our apartment in preparation for a move. LO did fantastic, he was even better behaved for my MIL than he is normally for me. He was almost 2 years old at the time.

We are planning to go to St. Lucia next winter for a week, and LO will be just over 3 at that time. It's not so much about age for us, he'd be fine, it's more that we've got too much on our plates to go now.

DH and I were talking the other day about how lucky LO is to have so much family within a 2-3 hour drive. She's even got family in the same town! (This is new to me, my family always lived in different states!) I've already had family members talk about how excited they are to have LO sleepover, or to watch her, etc.

So my question is, if you had family you could leave LO with for the night or a weekend, when did you start doing so? I figured at around a year she'd be good to go have an overnight with her grandparents or cousins, but DH is uncomfortable with it. Mind you, she's not here yet so this is just another instance of me worrying about the future, but I'm curious!

As a secondary question, those of you who travel internationally, have you taken international trips without LO? For how long, and how old were they? DH and I are talking about going to Europe when she is about 3, and leaving her with family (it'll be our 5th anniversary!).
