We did pureed black beans, mixed with breastmilk, in the first couple weeks and LO really liked them! She was a little gassy but not anything super uncomfortable. She is 11 months now and likes encilada filling with beans.

I gave mine beans in various forms from the start - maybe 7 months? They're a big source of protein for her now at 14 months.

LO is 6 mos and at her appointment last week the pedi said we should start introducing protein in some form, and that could include beans. Mainly lentils and chickpeas. She also listed yogurt and cottage cheese. I bought some lentils and chickpeas, but for now we're sticking to yogurt and cottage cheese and will introduce the beans in a few weeks.

@mrsjazz: Hehe...yeah, i was also reluctant for that reason! But I figure beans would be less distressing than meat, which she didn't seem to have a problem with. I just made sure to puree it with a lot of water so that it didn't back her up.

LO turned 7 months yesterday and she has never had beans. At her 6 month appt. our pediatrician said she could have beans but I am not ready to give them to her because I know how they can affect me! I am going to wait a bit--maybe closer to a year.

Is 7 months too early to give beans? I gave her pureed black beans a couple of weeks ago and she had no problems, but when i tried to give her beans pureed with water and yams yesterday she just gagged and wouldn't have it. She cried later that night but i don't know if it's because of her cold or something she ate. Any thoughts?
