10 months. It's more transitioning her into the crib, but we CIO. I originally wanted to wait until she was closer to 1 since I've read @Mrs. Bee's blog post on ideal times to sleep train, but I just couldn't take it anymore! We co-slept and she's one wiggly girl and a huge bed hog! But safety was our main concern. Right now she's sleeping in her crib. It's 8:00 pm. It feels so good to write that!

Next step is to put the crib into her room downstairs. Right now it's outside of our room in family room/computer nook/by the stairs. To have complete control of the family room while she's sleeping downstairs would be a dream!

@Smurfette: In a way, yes, it's helped. This weekend we were able to stop swaddling him for naps and he falls asleep more readily on his own. However, I wouldn't say they're 100% better -- he still sometimes takes forever to go down, sometimes goes down right away, sometimes sleeps for 2 hours, sometimes sleeps 15 minutes. Same at daycare. But I think that being put down in a crib and left to fall asleep is already helping him learn how to fall asleep on his own (of course they don't let him CIO or anything). And its nice to know we don't have to rely on the swaddle anymore, though we still do swaddle at night because I'm just not that brave yet.

@ladyfingers: good luck! we had really good success around 12 weeks at putting LO down drowsy, but awake at night. prior to that she needed to be rocked totally asleep. she never really cried because we did it very gradually.

@ladyfingers: I am interested in how it goes for y'all. I want to move R into her crib soon. She needs to be held to fall asleep, scared how hard it is going to be to break her of that. Has day care helped with his naps? We start in three weeks.

DS will be 3.5 months this weekend and we plan to start then. Essentially, he still sleeps in the rock n play in our room and needs to be rocked to sleep. We're going to start putting him down in the crib drowsy and leave the room and do 10-minute checks for as long as he's crying. Wish us luck. :/

we started at 11 weeks because getting him to fall asleep was turning into a huge production, and he was taking 45-minute naps and waking up cranky. it didn't work like a charm, but we don't really have another option (the carseat, carrier, cosleeping, sleeping on top of us are not sure ways to get him to fall and stay asleep). as he's getting older things are getting better.

We didnt have to sleep train DS. He just falls asleep beautifully on his own.
I never sleep trained dd, but at around 19-20 months we started locking her door from the outside because she kept waking up at least 3x a night and would come into our room. She cried for for a few minutes just one night and learned to stay in bed.

Around 10 weeks...honestly, it wasn't anything like some traumatizing CIO and sleep training stories I've read about...it was more like putting her on a good day schedule and giving her several minutes to fuss a little (and sometimes cry a little)...but she fell asleep so easily and would sleep for a LONG time. Fortunately, there was no crying for hours.

We sleep trained Olive when she was 13 months old. Then she was sick months 14-15 and her sleep went to crap, and we re-sleep trained at 16 months. She has slept through the night (most nights) since then (she's 19 months now).
