@loveisstrange: this is the approach we are taking.

LO is 28 months and is just not interested yet, so we are not pushing it. Hoping over the summer closer to 3 years old she will be ready, and hoping it will be an easy process if she is ready.

@loveisstrange: @QBbride: I don't subscribe to the view that there are any hard age limits on milestones, but here's the argument I read (although I swear I read it elsewhere.) I just google searched for this one.

http://www.babble.com/toddler/dangers-potty-training-early/

Dd is 2.5 and hasn't really started although she is showing readiness signs. I think it'll go quick when she is trained. I hope anyway!

A will be 24months in three weeks and she's not ready.
She's just starting to hide to poop, literally just started trying to pull her pants down just because. Within the year it'll happen when she's ready. She's my third so I've done it all, and it needs to be when they're ready.

We trained just before he turned two. He made a lot of developmental progress at that time and within a few days acquired multiple signs of readiness. He was holding pee overnight a lot of the time (started around 20 months or so), told us every time he peed, knew he needed to poop in advance, started taking his clothes off, and had the language skills to let us know. We were really surprised he did this so early and decided to follow his momentum. We let him be naked the first few days and my day three he pooped on the potty and only had one pee accident. After two weeks he used regular public bathrooms and that was it. I really thought I'd potty train him the summer before preschool, but he had other ideas and was ready about a year before starting preschool.

DD - 23.5 months. Got it really quickly and was going #1 and #2 by herself by day 2.

DS - 26.5 months. Took a little longer, but by day 3 he was running to pee by himself and by day 8 he was running to the potty when he needed to poop.

I waited until both kids started showing readiness.

We introduced the potty at 22 months and still at 24 months, she doesn't get. She thinks it is fun to sit on it but has only gone once, total fluke. We aren't going to rush her. I have a couple friends that pushed it and it has made it 100% harder for them and their LO. One still has major poop issues at 4.

With my oldest son, around 2.5 years old because I wanted him out of daytime diapers when his little brother was born. He wasn't fully night trained until he was around 4.5-4.75 years of age. My youngest son will be turning 3 at the end of the month and he has been on and off training himself for months now. However, only recently he has been wanting to wear underwear during the daytime; but still has moments like tonight when he had to pee really badly and REALLY wanted a diaper. I was asking why and he almost peed into his hands. Oops... I've been pretty relaxed with his potty training only b/c he's pretty stubborn, but I think he will get there, eventually. We've gone out 3x this past week in underwear (his idea) with bathroom stops successfully. So at least he's good with that while we're out. He still only wants to poop in his diaper. :)

Introduced potty around 18m, encouraged use before baths, eventually at 3y he was waking up dry in the morning so we went to underwear cold turkey. He had a few accidents, but gas been great!

#2 is 18m now and I plan to be laid back with him too :)

27 months. I had intended to wait, but I think all the potty talk at preschool got him interested. His class is generally older (most have turned 3) and a lot of them are trained or training, so he got excited. Mommy isn't particula excited, but that might be because he woke up at 230 last night and called to go potty (night training was also his idea...)

Both kids trained at 22.5 months. I'm pretty sure there's a window around that time that is good. I also know a bunch of people that trained around 26 months so that's probably another good one. The first time was summer and I had a six week old at home; second time was dead of winter so we were just stuck at home. I mention that just because there's always something so when you decide to go for it just commit. The other thing is sort of managing expectations- since we trained earlier we've had a fair share of accidents and I needed to help them more with the pulling pants down etc (but I prefered that to having to deal with diapers).

I started at 16 months due to some pressure from my parents (little sis was trained at 15 months) and found the opportunity to have naked time at the end of summer. It was a failure, but it did introduce the potty to LO. He showed signs of readiness a few months before he turned 2, but I was pregnant and couldn't handle potty training. We trained at 26 months out of necessity because he was having issues with a horrible rash, and the only solution was to get out of diapers. It worked out really well, and he was trained within 2-3 days. I winged it and trained for night too, and it surprisingly worked.

We've had a potty for ages and she'd use it before her bath every so often. We had a good window right before #2 arrived but opted to not train then. We're working on it this weekend at 26 months.

She was trained around 26/27m. We felt she was ready and we had introduced the potty a long time ago. We actually missed the first "perfect" window because I was pregnant and tired.
It took a week for her to be "trained" for day time. She's been dry overnight this round for about a month or two. We might try taking the overnight soon again but we'll see.

We picked up a potty and just slowly introduced the idea of it, "peepee in the potty," letting her watch me, etc. around 2 years. She's 2.5 now and we've actually started letting her run naked for a while trying it out but it's still firmly accident territory. She popped in it once because I scooped her up and got her onto it in time, not because she wanted to. Lol.

We started the learning process at around fifteen months (LO would run around outside in the nude and worked out she could pee on demand!) but we didn't start "training" until 27 months when Miss A decided she wanted to wear undies. We've now been working on toilet training since mid-January and the accidents are decreasing (usually only when LO holds on for too long) and she hasn't worn a daytime nappy for 5-6 weeks. Miss A definitely knows how it all works so I'm confident that she'll be done with the accidents pretty soon.

We've just been taking the laid-back route. She'll be 3 on April 3rd, we're planning on training this week. There's evidence that training before 3 can lead to potty issues later on, so I feel pretty okay with waiting. We introduced the concept at about 18 months, but we didn't feel the need to push it.

I honestly don't think we're even going to have to train her. I think she's ready enough it's just going to happen. I didn't want it to be a fight and we were in no rush.

We are unsure of when to start potty training. She isn't showing and signs of readiness yet but she also has never cared one bit if she is dirty or wry. She is still young (19 mo) so I doubt we are ready now anyway... What age did you start your LO and what made you decide it was time?
