Most of my scars on my knees are from bad wipeouts on my bike (gravel road). But it was the best feeling ever to be fancy free on my bike and coasting down a hill. Those were the days... Riding my bike around my neighborhood is one of my greatest childhood memories! We lived by the Hudson but in the UWS... Our building had a bike room and that also motivated us to get bikes, haha. But, it is so scary watching those cyclists!! i saw and heard stories of injuries all the time! as a newb I biked mostly at off-peak times and usually in or right by Riverside Park where it's much quieter. I biked that a few years back when parts of it by WTC were under construction and I ran into a vertical steel beam at a turn area. My bike hit it dead-on, then fell over on its side with me on it. It was the last time I biked. =P We lived in a 5th floor walk-up and never had room for bikes, so I didn't learn until I bought a house and a bike. I remember because my neighbor said, "you can't go to the 2nd grade on training wheels!" and then she taught me a few weeks before school started.
