DH already owned his home when we got together, but it was a small 2-bedroom where the second bedroom was more of a walk-in closet...definitely a bachelor pad! We are looking to buy our forever house in our mid-30s. </p> <p>@imbali: We had family help with the downpayment - my family made investments when I was born for this exact purpose because they are staunch believers in home ownership. We live in a city with an expensive rental market, and for tax reasons it didn't make sense to keep renting.
