I had a very early natural m/c (6 weeks?). It was baaad like period pains, so I think a got off easy.

I rated my m/c pain a 7 (6.5 for accuracy) with 10 being asking to due (which us extreme).

My regular periods are about a 4 on the same scale.

I would put bad gas pain at around 5.

My first loss which was a suspected ectopic (now my RE thinks it was a mc) was treated with MTX and once I started to bleed it was pretty painful. I felt like I was in mini labor on the toilet for hours (sorry tmi). My natural miscarriage at 7 weeks was painful too but definitely tolerable. My ob prepared me for what was going to happen. I had severe cramps and constant bleeding for a whole day and then it was completely over. My last cp and the one I'm having now are the same, a heavy period and severe cramps but it's not that much worse than my normal period symptoms.

The pain your describing is definitely enough to justify a call to your ob. Are there other ob's you can see at that office? Sounds more like a ruptured cyst to me, but from reading everyone else's post it seems everyone has a different experience. I'm sorry you had to deal with so much physical pain on top of how you must be feeling emotionally right now. hugs

I hope the worst is over for you.

Mine at eight weeks really wasn't painful at all, but I had terrible nausea. I passed some very large clots but it was nothing like the doctor had prepared me for.

My m/c at 5 weeks wasn't bad at all, just mild cramps, less than I used to get with my period (my first pregnancy managed to cure my cramps almost completely even though it was only 9.5 weeks, but prior to that I had severe, debilitating cramps every month). The one at 9.5 weeks was painful (it's what I based my vote of 6 on), but not as bad as yours. Though I had alcohol to help me through it so it might have been worse than I think. My "birth" at 33 weeks was infinitely worse, but I was only able to have painkilllers that they straight up said would only make me feel detached, not actually stop the pain. And they used pitocin, so from what I've read the pain was probably worse because of that.

@PawPrints: I wish I felt more comfortable with my doctor to reach out, but he was cracking jokes last week when I met him for the first time. "So I hear you want to make baby Limes?" followed by "I think you know what is happening (MC)." I will just crowd source and Google for now.

I am so sorry.

My mc at 7.5 weeks was pretty painful. Like, up all night, curled up in the fetal position painful. I rated it a 7, but maybe it was an 8. I passed some rather large things, maybe 1-2 cm in diameter.

I think it compared to the early stages of labor with my daughter...which definitely progressed to a 10.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm so sorry :(

I mc'd at 8.5 weeks and it was extremely painful. That only lasted about 2 days and then it wasn't as bad.

I delivered my LO without an epidural, I would call labor a 10 and my miscarriage around a 7. The pain was definitely similar but way more intense with labor.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: oh my gosh was mc was so painful too. I remember the doctor had said for me not to worry, it would just feel like a period. Yeah right. The cramps started over night and I basically rolled around in bed screaming and threw up a lot from pain. Honestly it was worse pain than giving birth since I had an epidural.

Sorry you've been in so much pain :(

With my first, I had a D&C so I didn't actually physically miscarry. They gave me some pill though for afterwards, to shrink my uterus back down, and the pain I felt with that was worse than my next 2 natural mc's. I was about 9 weeks when I had the D&C.

With my 2nd, I think I was around 8 weeks, and it wasn't that bad, just like a bad period.

With my 3rd, I was between 7-8 weeks, and I was on vacation! There were only a few times I remember the cramps being bad, but I had a huge bottle of Ibuprofen and I kept myself on a regiment of it.

And it absolutely does help to talk about it. xoxo

Mine at six weeks felt like a heavy period. I normally get very bad period pain but ibuprofen does the trick, and that was true for my MC. Maybe call the doctor to ask if what you're experiencing is any cause for concern?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: If you have a way to get one asap, I think it could work wonders. It has a wonderful almost numbing effect. If you get cramps at all during AF it's great for that too! And if you're feeling like you've turned a corner with the pain, this may not drag out much longer now.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm so, so sorry. My miscarriage (I was 8 weeks, baby measured 6 weeks), was really just like a heavy period, but my doctor had prepared me for much worse. She said I'd basically have to be in the bathroom for 1-2 hours. Compared to birth, it was far less painful.
I'm sorry it was so painful for you. I think the pain must depend on so many different factors.
It absolutely helps to discuss the process. Otherwise, it's just you. I didn't want to tell my husband about the worst of it, he was already hurting, so I pretty much didn't talk to anyone about the physical part of it. I wish I had, because I certainly don't want to bring it up now, but now it's only my pain to deal with.
Thinking of you.

@blackbird: lol @ "productive pain." Bring on the productive pain!! I cannot even begin to wrap my head around needing narcotics to help soothe. God will probably gift me with a lost of consciousness.

@spaniellove: I'm going to "invest" in a heating pad. When I started feeling the pain all I kept thinking was drawing a bath would take too long and super hot washcloth only last a few seconds. Why don't I have a heating pad. lol.

I think the worse is over. It's probably odd to fixate and want to discuss this stuff, but it actually does help.

They've varied...the one at 7 weeks was pretty freaking painful. Heating pad is your friend! Do you have one? I don't know why they don't tell you about this stuff.

I would say contractions later in pregnancy hurt, the ones I had from 26 to 39 weeks and kind of crushed my pelvis for months. Labor itself was easy with the meds...I promise they can do that for you if that's what you want.

Sending lots of strength and soothing thoughts your way.

I was given morphine for my pain during my first mc and it barely dented it. I couldn't believe it. I took Vicodin during my second mc to head off the pain. But yeah, mine were incredibly painful. I also have endometriosis though. At least with birth, my epidural worked and it was a productive pain. The mc pain just felt like a really cruel and shitty joke. Like it isn't bad enough you're mc, but it hurts bad, too? Ugh.

OMG yesterday morning was so freaking rough and I was all alone because my husband was a hour away doing some Groupon activity. Everything I read online about MC mentioned cramping, but didn't say anything about excruciating pain.

My cramps became painful Thursday night and throughout Friday. I'm a bit of wuss when it comes to pain anyway, but the cramping was my usual first or second day menstrual cycle type cramps. Usually I would take an ibuprofen at the slightest discomfort, but the unmedicated early pregnancy cramps somewhat built up my tolerance for pain. A face crunch, deep breath, and moving around was how I survived those two days.

Then, Saturday morning hit me like a ton of bricks. Only sitting on the toilet (which apparently is different than how I sit on a chair or couch) or kneeling bowed over on the floor felt good. My abdomen felt like heavy jelly that was waiting to detach itself from my body at any moment. The sharp contractions were felt from my lower back to the front. I would get winded just turning directions or standing up. The only thing I found strange was when I passed clots I didn't get the sharp, shooting pain in my lower pelvic region like I normally feel during a menstrual cycle and the MC clots were triple in size! The pain was really unbearable. I vocalized my discomfort (think seal or walrus sounds) and concentrated on my breathing the way I used to do during my Couch to 5K runs.

Thank goodness I remembered I didn't need to suffer and could take something for the pain. When I searched for the ibuprofen I found an empty bottle. There was definitely another bottle, but by then I could barely walk to retrieve the step ladder and dig deep into the cabinet and get it. I settled for a double dose of Midol, which worked in a half hour.

About four years ago, soon after I stopped using BCP, I experienced a ruptured ovarian cyst that sent me to the ER. I thought that pain was the worst thing I ever felt especially when the doctor examined me and pressed down on my abodomen. But, this MC took the crown. I'd give it a ten (10) on physical pain.

How physically painful was your MC on a scale of 1-10?

For those who experienced a MC and a birth, how did the two compare from a physical pain/ discomfort persepctive?
