I gained pretty steadily from the beginning since I never had morning sickness, but in my 3rd trimester it wasn't unusual for the scale to go up a full 5 lbs in one week. When you're that big you can really retain a lot more water. I gained 35 lbs total.

@spaniellove: I was up 12 pounds at 20 weeks. I am now at 35 pounds at 37 weeks. I feel as though my eating habits are about the same as pre-pregnancy, and I work out 6 days a week. So I have come to accept the fact that my body is just going to do what it is going to do.

With LO #1 I gained a quite a bit the end of my 1st tri and all of my second tri. I remember at 25ish weeks my Dr. told me I need to slow down my weight gain. I ended up gaining 45ish pounds and it was throughout my entire body. Felt pretty good this pregnancy.

with LO#2 I had gained 3lbs by 18 weeks. At 21 weeks, I'm not sure what I'm up. The Dr. told me I needed to gain more weight. I've only gained in my belly and hurt quite a bit more this pregnancy.

I was up 20 at 20 weeks. As a formerly petite fit person who never gained a pound no matter what I did! Don't feel bad about 12.

@Danizaur: @mskeee: I agree that it may not be all that related to how much you eat. I'm not eating that much lately with my nausea and aversions and still managed to gain 3 lbs in the past week and a half. So I'm up 12 lbs at almost 20 weeks.

In my first pregnancy, I steadily gained 1lb/week until the second tri when my weight gain really sped up. Luckily, it slowed a lot in the third tri so I didn't gain so much in the end. I was probably around 40 lb total gain at the end, but with the trajectory I was taking, I was worried it was going to be like 60! I lost it all though in a few months pp (with some work). Don't get too worked up about it!

I really don't know how much preg weight is connected to eating. I had severe nvp and was averse to most foods, and I ate whatever I could manage, but it was under the recommended calories and I gained like a boss. I put on 5 pounds in the 3 days after my BFP! I gained a pound a week throughout (even in the pound a month phase) but it would be that I would weigh the same for weeks, and then all of the sudden overnight I would gain 5 pounds! Ugh.

I'd like to add to my previous statement and mention that I have not stopped gaining weight!!

I'm even eating so much less (appetite loss I assume from being so big) and I'm still steadily climbing the scale. Sigh.

I'm 17 weeks and have gained 15lbs :/
During my first tri I had to eat pretty much every two hours to keep the nausea at bay. It's been at a pretty steady rate though... I'm hoping to try and keep it under control...

This time I didn't lose or gain in the first half, and I'm now +6 at 28 weeks. I eat like a cow, so I'm now sure what's going on!

I gained a lot of weight in the 2nd trimester. It tapered off in the 3rd and I even ended up losing weight towards the end. Sometimes our bodies just do what they need to I guess.

With both pregnancies I have gained nearly all of my weight in the second tri. It started coming on around 13/14 weeks and let up around 28 weeks with very little coming on in the third tri.

I can't remember specifics of my first, although I know I gained 32 lbs total and was up around 20 lbs at 20 weeks. This time, I gained 20 lbs between 13 and 24 weeks, most of it coming in spurts of three or four pounds in a week, followed by a plateau, then repeat. I'm currently 37 weeks and up 28 lbs, not likely to gain much more, if any at all.

We all gain our weight so differently and that recommended weight gain chart is really to be taken with a grain of salt!

Immediately! It slowed around 22 weeks or so, but then from 24 to 26 weeks, I gained 5 pounds :( Granted, that was Christmas, but still... I'm up 31 pounds at almost 28 weeks, and I don't like it. But I'm eating healthy (for the most part), walking and/or doing yoga when I can, and that's about all I can do. It's so hard not to worry, though!

FWIW, my glucose number was 80, so I passed. I'm just trying to try to make good choices. I hope you pass, too!

I only weighed myself at the doctors office every month. During the first tri I gained about a pound a week. I was 4-5 pounds heavier at every visit. At 18 weeks I had gained 16 pounds. Then during the rest of my second trimester I gained about 10 pounds a month! At my 32 week visit I was up 50 pounds, but it seems like I've stopped gaining now because the last weigh in was only 2 pounds more. I'll guess I'll have to see at my 35 week appointment on Thursday.
