It took forever! The doctor was supposedly somewhere else. I just cried out in pain til he came. I hated my hospital experience.

My nurse was trying hard to get it for me sooner. As soon as they broke my water the contractions were so unbearable, but I accidentally pulled my IV out when she ask me to get up and use the restroom. That incident cost me a very valuable 15 minutes. Water broke at 4:30, epi at 6pm, complete at 6:15, pushedfor an hour, born at 7:23pm

I'm sorry Mrs. Bee and you both had to go through that, talk about horrible! :(

Similar to Mrs. Bee I was stuck in triage for a couple of hours because all the rooms were full. Thankfully my labor wasn't a quick one like hers and I got my epidural about an hour after I got settled into my room. Unfortunately, I had to have it put in twice and it stopped working twice. I'll never forget the results of that as long as I live.

I got the epidural about 45 minutes after I had asked for it. I had a long labor, and the pain became unbearable 15 hours in when I was 7 cm dilated. I was mentally prepared for it to take a long time for the anesthesiologist to come, but 45 minutes feels like hours when you're going through contractions.

I got my epidural maybe 10 minutes after i asked for it? I waited until I couldn't stand the pain any longer--after 9 hours of labor.

I began my emergency induction at 1PM, I waited on the epidural til about 7 the following morning (~4 cm). It took them a while to get to me because they had just started a c section (I thought I was going lose it, I believe I told my husband that I was quitting labor at that point). I dilated very quickly after that so it was nice to be numb!

So sad for Bee :( that was one of my biggest fear before going to labor..

I got mine right away after I got my pitocin to be induced. probably because it was an extremely quiet day at the hospital.. also because my OB is my aunt and she called the hospital to make sure they give me the epi right away...

I got mine pretty fast, once I was finally admitted. I started contractions at 10 pm, went to the hostpital at 1 am, got sent home at 4 am, went back at 5 am (still hadn't dilated!) and begged for meds. They gave me a shot in the tush, checked me like 2 minutes after that and then I was dilated, and I have no idea how soon I got it after that but it seemed very quick.

Then she said I should feel 3 more contractions. I remember thinking I was going to die with those 3 contractions. And I didn't feel any of them. Awesome!

I got to the hospital at 9 pm and got my epidural by 10/10:30 pm. Sweet relief. So sorry to hear about your bad experience.

i was admitted into the hospital at 5 pm for an emergency induction. at 8:15 pm my epidural came. i actually didn't think i needed it yet when it came but i got it because i knew that if i missed the window for it i might have to have the baby without one.

With my first baby, I went in at 2am to get an epidural b/c the pain was getting bad. I was only 2cm so no epidural... Was allowed to walk. By 3:30am, still 2cm but still wanted it because contractions were so bad and more frequent... What happened? They sent me HOME (I lived a few blocks away). I wanted to curse everyone out, but they said I just wasn't progressing enough. I was so mad and in so much pain, but they encouraged me it would be better if I labored at home (they said an epidural would slow my labor down and I'd be greater risk for C/S. I labored at home from 4a to 8a, when I REALLY couldn't take it anymore). At 8:30a I was back at the hospital and at 5cm, so they allowed the epidural. But because I have weak veins and had up to 6 IV insertion attempts, I didn't get my epidural til 11am. So that's 9 hours from when I initially wanted it (2a - 11a) and 2.5 hours from when they okay'ed it (8:30a-11a).

I am glad though in hindsight because I learned alot about labor from that experience and I was able to go without an epidural the 2nd time.

The second time, I got to the hospital at 9cm. They still asked if I wanted an epidural (!) ... Um, no... I pushed the baby out a few mins after that... as soon as we got in a proper room!

I got mine as soon as I had a bag full of IV Fluids in me. Didn't have to wait but I might of gotten special treatment (my husband was a resident in anesthesia at the hospital I delivered in for my first, and he had graduated by the time I had my second but still knew the residents)

With Charlie, the hospital was overcapacity the night she went into labor, and everyone was busy. Bee was put into triage and the nurses totally ignored us even as she was writhing in agony. Bee didn't get her epidural for hours, even as I begged for help.

Until the day I die, I will never forget how we were treated. I was reduced to wandering the halls, telling people that my wife was in a very fast labor and begging people to arrange for an epidural. Finally a young resident I met in the hallways made it happen.

With Olive, the epidural happened faster but it was still a surprisingly slow process.

For those people who had an epidural (but didn't have a scheduled c-section), how long did it take for you to receive your epidural? Anyone else have the combo of a fast labor and a slow epidural?
