Following! This was the second week of school for DS (he turned 2 last week). He goes 2 mornings a week and this week has been terrible. He was so sad at drop off today but they said he did better as the day went on. Still think that he isn't into partcipating much and when I picked him up, the teacher was carrying him. Hope the transition gets easier soon!

ROUGH. It took her 4 weeks to be comfortable in her new school and she was going 5 days a week.

It took D (newly 2)about a month to adjust well to FT daycare. He would bawl when i would leave and often cry throughout the day :( He would start calling/looking for me in the afternoon. It broke my heart. Now about 3 months in, he only cries a little at drop off and doesn't cry at all during the day anymore. it was a rough transition but he's doing good now!
hang in there, R will adjust!

The nap adjustment is so hard! My son's class does a 1 or 1:30pm naptime, which is so late for him! He's usually tired by 11:30am at home, so he's always extra tired on his two schoolday evenings. He was 16 months when he started and it took him a few weeks to adjust and not be super clingy/overtired.

@KayKay: Thanks! they did say he is doing a lot of observing and that all of the new activities, voices, and surroundings tend to make kids extra tired. He's been on 1 nap for 5 months or so. My older child wasn't like this, so it's very difficult for me to gauge how miserable he is!

I'd definitely give it a month, unless it seems like he is *miserable*. I know that when K started her first year at a Montessori school (she was 2.5y), the teachers said it could take a solid month or two for kids to assimilate to the new environment and that some in particular seemed to just do a LOT of observing during that time!

I forget -- how long has he been down to 1 nap? E switched early, but it took a solid 4-6m before she didn't seem exhausted by naptime, especially on days when she went to childcare for the morning.

DS2 is 21 months and started a toddler program at our Montessori school at the beginning of September. Previously he was home with me or a nanny. It's 3 days, 8:30-3:30. It's not going well. He cries a lot, doesn't seem to participate much, and is acting exhausted and wanting to nap before nap time (aka during lunch time). I work, but we do have a part time nanny and have the option of switching back to her normal hours and pulling him from school.

I was figuring I should give it a month and then re-assess. How long did it take your toddler to adjust to daycare/school?
