She pours her own milk and juice, with some help from me. She puts her shoes on herself, not the shoelace kind. I remember seeing something like that once before on here, maybe you posted it. </p> <p>At almost 17 months she regularly puts stuff in the bin, puts bowls/cups in the dishwasher, will pick up any food she dropped on the floor (DH is super strict about this--I don't really care either way!). We try and get her to tidy her things but it's a bit hit and miss. We are trying to foster independence but it's easier to just do things for her. She can put her shoes away, throw things in the garbage, feed the dog, etc at 15.5 months. Since then, I've been paying attention and yup... I do a lot of things for my kids that prevents them from becoming self-sufficient! Little things like helping put on their shoes in the morning, or putting their plates in the sink after meals.</p> <p>I've been working to change my ways, and it's making a big difference I think! However, we've still got a long ways to go before the kids are self-sufficient... I'm hoping by the end of the year, they'll be very different in that respect!</p> <p>How self-sufficient are your kids? </p>
