I would take inventory before doing anything. Sometimes I feel like my LO has a lot of a certain size, but when I actually sit down and lay out all the items in that size; I find she is low on pants, or sweaters, or a certain item (and often, has a surplus of something else in that size).

If your LO is good across the board on items, then I would buy a pair or 2 of shoes for later. I think baby shoes are absolutely ridiculously expensive and I hate spending money on them, so for me, using gifted $$ on shoes works out perfectly because then I don't feel guilty/crabby spending $30 on shoes she won't wear long!

You could also wait until Baby Gap, Carters, Children's Place, etc. is having a really good sale and then stock up!!

I'd tuck it away somewhere safe until my LO needed clothes. If it's in my wallet it will get spent, but if I put it in a jewelry box or something I'd be able to save it.

I would put it in the savings account, it isn't so much ignoring the gift givers wishes, it's more in line with saving it for when you need it!

I wouldn't spend much more on clothes, I know it is hard not to, but!

I too like the idea of buying one special outfit in the next size up (and showing them) and saving the rest. I think of it as, you will buy clothes again. Even if you spend the rest of that $100 on something else, I am 100% positive in the next few years, you'll spend at least $100 on clothes, wherever that money comes from. So, if you buy the one outfit intentionally now, and spend the rest later as needed, you have fulfilled their wishes.

Plus, most people when they give money, it's really so the recipient can use it on what they really want/need, instead of something trivial the giver picks out.

I like @Trailmix: idea. Buy one outfit to show them and save the rest.

If you're into thanking them with pictures, I'd buy an outfit in the next size up to wear to the next party or outing and take thank you picture to the gift giver. I'd save the rest of it until he needs something.

Or if pictures aren't necessary, just save it until you definitely need something. There's a few times when I thought she had so many clothes, only to find out she needed something/more of something during her next growth phase.

@Mrs. High Heels: I'm kind of worried that if I hang onto it, I'll spend it on something else lol.

If it were me, I'd probably buy one cute item of clothing (and send the giver a pic, lol) and then put the rest in savings for LO. That way you're still respecting the gift-giver's wishes but not just spending the $$ just for the sake of spending it!

Doesn't sound like you need much so I might splurge on one cute outfit you otherwise wouldn't buy then save the rest! :)

We were given $100 and told to buy LO some clothes with it. I'm a fan of actually spending gifted money on what we've been told to (if we're told), so I feel obligated to get him clothes. But I'm stumped on what to get.

He's going to grow out of 3-month clothes soon (12.5 weeks and around 16 pounds) but I feel like he has a ton of 6-month stuff already. He's totally starting to bust out of his jammies, but we live in Florida so I'll probably just start dressing him in short-sleeved onesies under his swaddle/sleep sack.

He has a good start on 9-month clothes, too. The good thing about living in Florida is we don't need to worry about being terribly seasonal with our purchases, though, so I could buy some 9-month stuff now.

What would you spend the money on? 9-month stuff? 12 months? A combo? Some shoes for when he needs them? Other ideas?

Or just keep the money for when it's more apparent what he needs? Orrr stick it in his savings account and ignore the gift-giver's wishes?
