@MamaBear87: my hubby had his done Thursday night and was back to work Monday. He was pretty mobile over the weekend - just tucked my nursing frozen gel pads into the pocket of his boxer briefs. He took ibuprofen for a couple days and was ready to have sex again by the next weekend (the doctor told us that whenever he felt up to it we could go ahead)

@MamaBear87: procedure was on a Friday and he was back at work by Monday. He was still uncomfortable but not in “pain”. Sex was off the table for like 2 weeks I think...? His doctor told him until he feels up to it. And he wanted to wait until the wound heeled. It really wasn’t bad at all (especially compared to child birth!!!)

For those who's so had a vasectomy how long was he down for? My hubby is totally on board but I'm trying to figure out how many days off is reasonable/how much pain hell actually be in.
(And candidly how long we'll have to forgo sex 😂)

If I would have had it my way, the vasectomy would have happened right after DS turned 2. Which is about when we decided we were done. But it took me a full year to convince DH to do it. He was onboard in theory but was scared of the procedure.
I HIGHLY recommend permanent measures.

I have 2 kids and am 99% sure I am done. I think my husband is 100% done, but my youngest is 3 months, and if something were to happen to him I might want another. I would be devastated if I couldn't have another baby. I'm not that fertile though and hormonal birth control worked for us for like 8-9 years.

@peaches1038: not at all. Solidarity. I’m sure I started a similar one.

My mom also pointed out that none of our friends/family have only children unless they are younger than us or got later starts. So it’s also certainly a social norm to have at least 2 children. One cousin has 5 and another is expecting her 4th.

I had a tubal when my 3rd LO was 4 months. I probably would have waited until closer to 1 year (bc how much are we really having sex right now anyway, lol...and then I’d be done BFing) but I wanted to use the same (paid) insurance deductible.

Our youngest just turned 3 and if it were up to me, DH would have gotten a vasectomy right after she arrived. But he's reluctant about the procedure, simply because of the pain/discomfort factor, not that he's unsure we're done. I got a Skyla figuring that by three years we'd surely have this taken care of... but I'm getting a new IUD next month :bummed:

@peachykeen: I think it’s a concern that something could happen to our baby and a little bit about the procedure. I also had a difficult pregnancy pre e and GD round one. I’m hopeful that I’ll have less complications this time- but I’m down on weight and on anti nausea meds.

DH wouldn't have a vasectomy so I was planning on a tubal ligation after my second but I didn't have a C section and for some reason my doctor didn't follow up with me about it post birth in the hospital. We had discussed before birth adding the procedure in while I was there in recovery. I didn't think about it post birth in the hospital and I ended up getting an IUD. So far so good.

@peaches1038: I was the same as you and @youboots: in that I really didn’t feel strongly about a 2nd either way. Probably leaned more towards one and done, actually. But didn’t feel 100% on that.
We finally decided that we wouldn’t regret a 2nd. We might regret NOT doing it down the road, but we’d never have a 2nd and say “oops bad decision”. So we did it and NOW we are done. We both agree fully. And we are both happy with two :-)
It’s not like I don’t think back to life with just one and miss some aspects of it. But I wouldn’t give up my 2nd for the world.

I had my tubes removed at my c-section for baby 2. I told my OBGYN I wanted it early in the pregnancy. I had a planned repeat CS.
I went into labor a month early and the whole process was rushed. She had to ask me again right before and I signed the paperwork in the OR.
ZERO regrets.
We also have to do IVF for pregnancy anyway, so even if we did change our mind (which we won’t) we could still do it that way. Don’t need tubes for IVF.

I had a tubal during my 3rd c-section. We always wanted 3 kids and felt very strongly we are done at 3. My husband also got a vasectomy when our 3rd was 2 months old. We both decided to take permanent measures as we both felt like if our marriage failed or something tragic happened we wouldn’t want any more kids either with each other or a future partner.

Our 2nd and final child just turned 2 and DH brought this up bc one of his friends just found out they are having a 3rd oops baby like 8 yrs after they thought they were done bc her IUD failed.

I have an IUD and DH does not want to end up with an oops third.. and neither do I!!! So I guess we'll be discussing it more soon and see when DH can schedule it.

We are both done!! LOL. We were blessed with 2 and feel very happy. I am really old and we are comfortable financially with 2.

Not me, but a friend of mine was confident they were done at 2 and they scheduled a vasectomy for about 8-9 months after their 2nd was born. Their reasoning was that they wanted to be solidly comfortable with parenting 2 and out of the newborn stage before DH would be out of commission for a bit with recovery/surgery.

About 12 weeks after having #2 just due to timing/availability. We were 100% sure mainly because I had 2 preeclamptic pregnancies and it's just not worth risking my health further. DH was very hesitant at first just about having the procedure but it was really, really not bad when he had it done.

I didn't read every comment, but do you think your DH is more worried/hesitant about the procedure or more that he's not sure he's done (since it sounds like you're sure)?

I’m a little on the fence so maybe this isn’t helpful, but I’ll respond anyway :silly: We always said we wanted 2, and dh is still very firm on that. When I was pregnant w lo2 and then in her first year, I couldnt really fathom it being my last time pregnant or last babyhood... but now that she’s 2 I’m more and more content with our little family, I can’t really imagine taking on more/splitting my attention. And it’s nice to sleep again lol! It just feels more and more right to put the baby stage behind us. We haven’t taken permanent measures yet and I’m not sure when I will feel ready for that, though dh is on board...

@youboots: yeah I get it, I'm still weirded out and I'm 10 days in. While they were putting it in I was mentally freaking out (it wasn't painful, it was just weird mentally) and saying over and over "no more babies no more babies" out loud.... so yes it's weird! but 99% effective and easily removable.
