I didn't do the BCP part but if you're sure you want to do IVF it might be helpful to make the appointment so you can get on the BCP at the right time in your cycle. As others mentioned, you might find out that you need to have other tests done first, in which case the sooner the better! And of course if you get a BFP you can always call them back and cancel the process.

@bluestriped bee: no experience with this, as you know, but I'm glad you are thinking ahead to the next exciting step! Fingers crossed this cycle ends in a BFP for you, but if not, you have a lot of women who can help you out with your IVF cycle.

We weren't actively trying a couple months leading up to IVF. The month before I had to start BCP so I was in touch with my nurse about my cycle. I had been to a consultation and my dr had already decided on a protocol.

They wouldn't let me start BCP until I had met with the RE and he put a plan/protocol in place. I had already met with him once to go over what is involved with IVF, but because we did another IUI in between and he didn't have the official plan in place, we had to meet with him again. You have to start the BCP within the first 5 days of your cycle, so if you're sure that's your protocol (and not Lupron, which you start on day 21) then I'd make the appointment ASAP! Besides, making a follow up appointment is like buying tampons or adopting, right? It'll guarantee you're KU :silly:  /sarcasm

ETA: oh also, before IVF I needed to have an updated physical (since it had been more than a year), I had to sign a bunch of consent forms, take an injections class, we had to get insurance approval (n/a in your situation, right?) and I had to get some updated bloodwork (CD 3) for insurance purposes because it had been more than a year.

Is there any other blood work you would need to do prior to IVF? For instance, my doctor required infectious disease testing within 30 days of starting IVF, I needed to have my prolactin checked, I had to have an up-to-date pap, etc. There was also a lot of paperwork we needed to sign and have notarized before starting. We also had to pay the big deposit. If you have to do some of this stuff, it might be a good idea to get started prior to a BFN (although my fingers are still crossed for you!).

We skipped IUI completely and had several unmedicated cycles before we started, but I had to wait until I got my period to get on BCP. I did a month of BCP before anything else, but I think it depends how much your dr wants to suppress you.

I think pretty quickly after, but I was pretty surprised at how long the IVF cycle actually takes. You have to get a "calendar" and it has to fit with your clinic, etc. So I would absolutely call right away...but it could take awhile.

(I hope you have a magic bfp this cycle instead!)

So I'm in my TWW and going to POAS this Friday. Trying not to symptom spot and get my hopes up, so I'm already thinking about if I have another BFN. (It's really sad saying that. IF really has made me lose the ability to be hopeful in getting pregnant.)

We already spoke to the dr about IVF and got the info packet on the process and the financial commitment.

I know I'm putting the cart before the horse but if I get a BFN, I want to get a jump start in my IVF cycle.

Wondering if I should wait for the BFN to make the appt or call now to be seen this week. I know I have to get onto bcp. Maybe I can get that prescription now.

Anyway, how soon after your BFN, did you start meds for your first IVF cycle?
