@T.H.O.U.: Thanks! I think I might go the lying route and say I haven't gotten the call yet. I really don't know when my RE's office will call, so it might not even be a lie. At least this will give us time over the weekend to process and decide how to proceed. :)

Just wanted to say congratulations.

Is there any way you could lie and just say, the results aren't back yet? I have had two people ask me if I'm pregnant and we arent' ready to share so I just have to lie.

@twodoghouse: Our parents, my sisters, and four coworkers knew we were going through IVF. I got a :bfp: on a FRER at 6dp5dt and kept getting positives until my beta at 16 days after ER. DH was with me when I got my first positive test and my mom guessed that night. So then both of my parents knew because my dad was there too.

We told DH's parents and my sisters after the beta confirmed the pregnancy. My four coworkers knew the day of or the day after the beta.

I'm glad we didn't tell many others right away because we had a vanishing twin which was difficult to go through. We did end up telling the rest of the families at 9 weeks. Going through IVF makes pregnancy feel a lot longer because you know something's hopefully going on right away. My MIL liked to remind me that she'd known I was pregnant for much longer than she ever knew she was pregnant.

Lots of sticky dust to you!!

@twodoghouse: Obviously no BFP yet, but a lot of family, friends, and 3 co-workers know we are doing IVF this cycle, so completely hiding the results just is not an option. I am asking for their prayers and good thoughts that it works, so I feel I can at least share the news sooner.

I do plan to give myself some cushion and tell them I won't have results for at least a couple days after I really will. That will give DH and I some time to process the news (either way) on our own. Then if we get a BFN, I will send out a text/email, or just ask my sister to spread the word. I would also do the same if we were to have a loss after sharing news of a BFP. If we have a BFP, I'll start calling our closest family and friends within a day or two of getting our results and let the good news spread from there or again with texts/emails.

Good luck, I realized a few weeks ago that this would be a bit of a tough spot to be in since I was telling so many people about IVF too.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I got a + on FRER tonight so we are tentatively celebrating. We are keeping it to ourselves until we hear back from our betas, when we will tell our parents and siblings. I think I will be able to put off most of my co-workers by just telling them I haven't heard yet by the time the work day is over on Friday. We'll see how much longer I can wait to spill the beans after that though... (not a great secret keeper over here!)

There were some coworkers of mine who knew all of the details because you're right, it's so hard to hide when you're gone at appointments all the time. In fact I got the call with my positive beta at work and my coworkers overheard, so they were actually the first to come running and ask the result, which I told them. Then I ran and told DH and celebrated with him. We told immediate family pretty early, about at 6weeks. I had read about this on threads before and agreed with the thought that if something were to go wrong, I'd want all of those people to be there as support, so I didn't feel the need to keep it a secret until a 12 week mark. Of course I didn't tell anyone beyond immediate family and a few very close friends and coworkers until 12 weeks.

Such a pickle! I feel for you! That was the reason I only told a couple people when we did IVF, which was difficult, but necessary for my sanity. The few people we told (couple close friends & my boss who I'm also close with) were told the results pretty quickly, within a few days of us finding out since like you said, they knew we had heard the results. Everyone else was told in stages, (I hadn't even told my parents we had done IVF til we told them we were expecting twins around 10 wks) we then told everyone else around 13 or so weeks. I've been following you on the IVF board and am hoping for great news on Friday!

I had one CW who knew of our journey, and our offices were adjoining so she accidentally overheard the call from my RE with my beta results. I had a BFP at home the night before so my husband already knew, but my female CW was the first person at work to find out.

We didn't tell any of our other co-workers until we were nearly out of the first trimester and released to an OB.

Good luck!

We were very open about our journey too. We just avoided all the people we told  easier said than done! My mom knew the day we got our positive beta, DH's immediate family knew about a week later. Our friends knew the week after that since we were all in Vegas and it was pretty obvious I wasn't drinking.

We are at the tail end of an IVF cycle (betas tomorrow and Friday) and I'm starting to get worried about how we're going to handle sharing whatever news we get this week. In the last month, the number of people who know that we're going through IVF has grown exponentially - our parents & siblings, all of our close friends, some extended family and a surprising number of co-workers (they kept asking why I was going to the doctor and I just kept telling people all the details!).

Anyway, as I've discussed this with more people, it eventually comes down to one question - when will you know if it worked? In retrospect, I know I should have lied or made up a day in the future. Instead, I have told every single person who asked that we will know by the end of the day Friday.

And just now I'm starting to see the problem... how am I going to keep the results to myself when everyone knows Friday we will be getting big news?!?! Today I've already had four people stop me and say they are so excited for this week and can't wait to hear our good news. I REALLY don't want to discuss the results with co-workers before celebrating (hopefully) with my husband, talking to our parents, etc. I think they will all understand that (although I don't know how I would keep the smile and happy tears off my face if we get good news), but I'm just not sure when we should spill the beans to everyone else. I can't imagine waiting another 8-12 weeks when all these people (who have given us so much support and love) are nearly as excited to find out as we are.

If you went through fertility treatment and couldn't keep your mouth shut about it (like me!), when did you start telling people that it worked?
