3 weeks to the day. DH fed him (it was his birthday). He was gaining weight well and our pedi said she sees very, very few cases of nipple confusion (we had no problems).

M had bottles in the hospital because she was jaundiced and inefficient and they had me pumping. She never had any problem with nipple confusion.

Thank you all SO much! I was reading all these recommendations that you wait until at least 6 weeks and freaking out. You have made this seem a LOT more doable!

3-4 weeks is definitely doable! We gave Xander his first bottle around 3 weeks and he was totally fine going back and forth. You might want to try earlier though, in case you have to go through different bottles before you find one your LO will take. Some babies are picker than Xander.

LO drank from a bottle at day 2. My milk wasn't coming in, and he wasn't interested. I chose to exclusively pump. Since the sucking reflex didn't come naturally to him, it still took him a while to learn how to drink from a bottle.

Wishing you the best of luck with your semester.

2.5 weeks. We kind of did it based on our pediatrician's recommendation, and kind of because we forgot until then.

At the hospital, day 2 for both. I gave them formula until my milk came in.

I think 3-4 weeks is doable! Good luck!!!

A year and a half ago I went back to school to finish my BS, and last November I applied to my ideal program. However, I got pregnant a lot fast than I anticipated, and now classes start two week after my due date (EEK!). They won't let me defer for a semester, so my options are going part time in the fall or waiting a whole year and reapplying next fall. I don't want to risk not getting in again (and miss out on a whole year), so I'm working to figure out going this fall. I'm hoping to miss the first two weeks, so babe would be 3-4 weeks old when I started classes. I think I would only need to go to campus for one class (I hope to go part time, and take one online), so I would be away from baby about 5 hours once a week. I want to breastfeed, so I plan on pumping and leaving breast milk in bottles. Is this unrealistic/too early? What were your experiences? Thanks!
