@MrsTiz: I agree with Highwire - OPKs can help you, but only if used in conjunction with tracking CM and CP. Charting is really best and will teach you a ton about your body, but a huge pain. I charted my BBT for six months, but switched to just OPKs + CP + CM because I always O'ed on CD 17 or 18, so it was easy for me to identify O with that method.

FF is giving you an O day because you likely have your O Predictor set on the simplest setting. There are several - one that requires a BBT, one that will go off of OPKs + other symptoms, and one that makes a guess based on cycle length. Play around with it to see if you should change your settings a bit.

I am going to put in another plug for TCOYF if you are feeling uneducated or unsure about this stuff. It is WONDERFUL.

@MrsTiz: No, there's no way to precisely know when you ovulate unless you are temping. OPKs will give you a window of time, if I understand things correctly.

@septca: I'm just assuming lol! I was tracking my periods on Fertility Friend, and it would tell me when O was so I just realized that it was 2 weeks after the first day of AF, and assumed it was always that way?

Is there any way to know when you O without temping?

Ah I feel so uneducated haha

i had a regular 28-day cycle and didn't chart or temp. i just assumed i o'ed between a certain time frame (cd 12-15). i got pregnant the first month we pulled the goalie. so, if you're regular, it's definitely possible to get pregnant without actively ttc. i was on the ttc threads for a few months (still keep up with them!), and most people don't get a bfp as early as 9dpo, so i would wait -- getting a bfn is disappointing! i tested like 4 different days before i finally got my bfp at (what i assume is) 13dpo.

@MrsTiz: and if you ovulated yesterday you don't need to keep BDing every day, you can only get PG in the few days before ovulation and ovulation day. I'll second the TCOYF recommendation.

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but I didn't get my positive until 4 days AFTER my missed period. I was supposed to get it on a Wednesday, tested and it was negative, tested again on Friday and I thought I saw a faint line but DH said no, then Saturday morning finally got a more defined line. Had one positive, one negative (due to diluted urine) and then finally Sunday morning I had a good line. So it just depends on when you actaully ovulate!

Not to be a hardcore TTC-er or anything, but how do you know you O'ed yesterday? Are you just basing on when your cycle started? If so, you may want to pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility... it will give you TONS of great information on how your cycle works and how very, very few of us are "normal." You likely do not O on CD 14 (CD1 is day 1 of AF). Likewise, it's not likely that you will get AF again exactly 14 days after O... it's a complicated, messed up situation :o) that really depends on the individual, so unfortunately you really can't go off assumptions or what an app will tell you. The only way to track YOUR O is to chart. If you aren't ready for that, I *totally* get it... just make sure that you are BDing a lot to cover all your bases. :o) And GOOD LUCK!!!

As for your original question, tests are the most accurate at 14 DPO, but you *can* get an accurate test as soon as 9 or 10 DPO. 12 DPO is usually a pretty safe bet if you can't hold out until 14 DPO but don't want to be bummed out by a potential "false negative."

Lol, it's the worst, isn't it!? This is my first cycle trying too, and I have no idea when I ovulated, so I'm just testing every couple of days >.> Hellooo dollar store pregnancy tests!!

@MrsTiz: The very earliest you could possibly get a positive on a test is after implantation, which is usually about a week after you O (the earliest I've ever heard of is 8-9 days after O). I think someone posted a chart somewhere saying what percentage of positives were found at which DPO. Good luck! My suggestion is to try and keep yourself occupied with other things - the TWW can drag on for-ev-er.

Are your cycles normally 28 days? Your best bet is to wait until your period is actually late and then test, but if you can't wait that long, test a few days before it's late. :)

I have a 29 day cycle and don't ovulate until cycle day 18-19. I tested at 7DPO,8DPO,9DPO, and 10 DPO all with BFN's. I'm a testing addict :/ Then I got my BFP on 11DPO. We got pregnant our first cycle trying but I had been off the pill for 1.5 years before we started trying.

ETA:
BFP (Big Fat Positive)
BFN (Big Fat Negative)
DPO (Days past ovulation)

do you have cheapie tests or $$ ones? if you order some cheap ones from amazon, you can start testing as soon as they get here & not feel bad about wasting $$ on them =) i have these ones right now, $7 for 25 of them! http://www.amazon.com/babi-Urine-Pregnancy-Strips-25-count/dp/B005E90G4W/ref=pd_sim_hpc_11

but usually you want to wait about 10 days after you O, some people have seen faint lines at 9 days, some people don't get anything til 14+ days. good luck!

:) Welcome! 14 is sort of what people say is normal but a lot of folks (on here, at least) don't ovulate til as late as CD20. You can usually start testing 10-12 days or so after ovulation.

I'm not charting or temping or anything but I think that yesterday I ovulated? If I understand this all right, O day is 2 weeks from the start of your period? Soo, yesterday. DH and I are BD'ing everyday, and i'm wondering when you are allowed to test?

eek I feel silly. I'm new to all the TTC info!
