Thanks so much for all your responses. I think I'm going with the smaller size. I only have 2 sizes to choose from:

92 = 36"
98-104 = 38 - 41"

They convert to US sizes weird here so 92 is labeled 18 months, and 98-104 is 2T. But 38 - 41" seems really big for a 2 yr old and he's at the most average. Now I won't be stuck at the store staring at 2 sizes for 15 minutes! I'm sure DH will be truly grateful for that! :)

@Crumbs: I think those averages you has are WAY off!!

DS was 32.63" at he 2 year check up and that was 5th percentile on WHO (11th CDC)! So the average you found wouldn't even be on the chart :( He was also 28 lbs 13 oz (75th percentile WHO).

I found this chart broken down into percentiles that may help. It is basses off the CDC chart:

The average height for a Male age 2 years, divided in percentiles is:
the 3rd percentile height is 31.6 inches.
the 5th percentile height is 31.9 inches.
the 10th percentile height is 32.4 inches.
the 25th percentile height is 33.3 inches.
the 50th percentile height is 34.2 inches.
the 75th percentile height is 35.1 inches.
the 90th percentile height is 36 inches.
the 95th percentile height is 36.5 inches.
the 97th percentile height is 36.8 inches.

She's not 2 yet, we still have a couple of months. But she's in the 90th percentile, so she's taller then most.

At 2, DS was 35.5". I was/am buying 3T-5T tops and 2T-3T bottoms. He's a bruiser though...he was 14 kilos (over 30lbs) at his 2 year checkup.

In my limited experience with just one child, he grew enormously the 1st year and only 3-4 inches the 2nd year.

Honestly, I kinda forget but I think that sounds a bit short..

I just looked at my August Moms group and here are the range of stats, this poll was taken when they all were about 21 months (so just shy of being 2).

21 months - 30lbs 35" (boy)
18 months - 29lbs 33.5" (girl)
22 months - 24lbs 34" (girl)
21 months - 37"
23months - 33"
20 months - 33"
21 months - 36"
21 months - 36" (girl)
21 months - 32" (boy)

I'm buying a gift early for my friend's 2 year old. His birthday isn't until late autumn, but she lives in Singapore and if I wait until then, everything will be long sleeves and sweaters.

I tried looking up the averages and it's 31" for boys and 30" for girls. Does that sound about right? The chart also says that the average for 1 yr old is 28-29". I find it hard to believe that a toddler only grows 1" on avg in a whole year. I can ask her, but it'll still be a guesstimate since I won't be sending the gift until his bday.
