Hmm...trying to think here, not sure if these are unique or not but they're what I could come up with! And some are from other nail place name threads on google (not actual salons but other threads of ideas): Nail Envy, Polished to Perfection (or, if you want to keep it simple, just Polished), Anonysquire's Nail Bar...

I do like Candy Nails though, I don't really think it matters if there's another when it's not even in the same state.

I agree, you don't need to have a complete unique name because a nail place really is a local business, not a nationwide one.

I would recommend thinking about 1) Your target audience and 2) the price you plan on charging (inexpensive, or luxurious). For instance, "Candy Nails" is cute, but if you're going for a more spa-like feel you might want to do something like "Exquisite Nails" or something. Hopefully that helps a bit!

I don't think its all that important to have a completely unique name in the entire US due to the local nature of your business. If you are the only Candy Nails in your state I would say you're golden! Just check your state's business registry. If you are looking for a URL you can always do CandyNails(City or state).com or something.

My 2 ideas that I had had earlier were "You've got nails" or "candy nails". And both have them have been taken in other states. Ugh! @PEAPIE: Thanks for that site. I searched a couple and they were not taken!

@babycanuck: Lol nail biter! It really is!!!

@mrbee: Ya... I wish I knew what I was focusing on.

@indi: My husband came up with Nailed it earlier today, then when we googled it there were like 100 :(

@anonysquire: Like PPs said, keep an eye out for random inspiration in conversation, and after you've come up with a few you like, check them against the companies that are already registered.

I always think the quirky names are fun (i.e. we have a Curl Up and Dye hair place in my town). Something like "Nailed it!" if you're not shooting for a luxe, shnazzy-pants nail boutique?

I would pick something to focus on... then find a name that emphasizes that one thing!

You might be surprised what comes up in conversation with people. I have a registered event planning company....and randomly in a conversation my aunt was talking to me about a party I was doing and she said "Don't worry - I'll Supervise" and BAM - I'll Supervise became my company name. So random and from a really funny situation.

waiting for a name could be a real "nail biter" :P (wah wah)

@anonysquire: Fun! Do you ever read HelloGiggles.com? They post Nails of the Day pictures and have some really creative/interesting designs. (I'm more of a solid color kinda gal, but I can respect the creativity at technique!)

So yeah, you can check to see if there are any names that are similar to yours or you can also search "nails" and see what businesses have the word nails in their name. That could be a good place to get some ideas too. Not to copy, but just to see what others are doing. It would be nice if you could search by TYPE of business, but I think most states don't even ask that on their filing paperwork... So it's mostly just to check and make sure the name you came up with isn't used before you file. But here's the site : https://secure.utah.gov/bes/

You guys are so cool for responding!

@Danizaur: lol I do like anonysquire. People might think it's weird though hahaha!

@alie: I was thinking hopefully hip and trendy?

@LemonLong: hahahah I love our ideas though! I wish I had the right image to be tough or gothic lol!

@Dandelion: like my last name and my husbands last name? Simanderson nails? If only either one of us had cool names.

@PEAPIE: you're so awesome! I wish I was good at branding. With the type of nails I've kind of already been doing I want to bring more nail art and creative nails to Utah. Like I have been to 100 nail salons and they all do the same thing. Nothing wrong with that and I will also give anyone white tips if that's what they want but also like celebrity inspired nails and awesome nail art and just creative nails. Can I search that entity stuf online you think?

You're a clever lady and have a good sense of humor. I'm sure you'll come up with something! It could be "punny", it could be fancy, it could be vague, etc. Is there anything you are wishing to specialize in? like nail art, or acrylics/gels... or anything you want to be known for? That could get you started in a direction.

When I started my business I needed a business name, because my real name is hard to pronounce and wasn't "marketable" AND just not fun. So it took me a long time to settle on one. Make sure to check your state's corporation commission and do an entity search to make sure you don't get excited about a name that's already taken!

Feel free to wall me if you want to bounce ideas around. I'm sort of a branding nerd!

Do a biker themed nal salon and call it "Tough as Nails" or a goth themed place and call it "Nails in your Coffin"! Sorry, I am obviously no help at all.

It's hard to come up with a name!

My only advice is to first think about your overall branding and image, so you can brainstorm names that match. For example... will your nail salon be tranquil and relaxing? Or hip and trendy? Simple and low-key? Or high-end, luxe? Figuring out those things first might help steer you towards ideas for naming.

So I am going to nail school starting Tuesday. And if all goes as planned by the end of the year I will have my own nail company. But I can't come up with a name for the life of me. Or the ones I think I come up with, there are about 100 of them on facebook. Ugh! Does anyone know where to turn to come up with a name? Apparently my creative juices have dried up.
