I have a Medela double electric pump, and some milk has gotten sucked up into the thin plastic clear tubes that run from the machine to the suction cups. I didn't know this with my first and washed it after every use. It was tiring and my hands got so dried. If it was a one-time-a-day pump then I would clean them right away. I just throw the parts in with some soapy water and then rinse them whenever I remember that I've left them there. After every use, I soak in soapy water and I steam all my parts every day. I also make sure I wash my hands thoroughly before even touching the pump parts.
