I use hot soapy water twice a day + steam at the end of the day, inbetween that I store in the fridge. I'm worried about bacteria growing in the fridge though so I'll probably do the soapy water every time.

Ya, I rinse in cold water...
I should clean it with soapy water though. But I've only pumped 2x.

I wash with dish soap and hot water between every session.

Sorry to threadjack but, has anyone had issues with some milk getting sucked up into the clear tubing of the pump????? I have a Medela double electric pump, and some milk has gotten sucked up into the thin plastic clear tubes that run from the machine to the suction cups. I am not sure how to go about cleaning these tubes!

I used to put in a ziplock and put it in the fridge and wash the next morning or evening but at least once a day. I didn't know this with my first and washed it after every use. It was tiring and my hands got so dried. Wish I had known about it earlier!

@skibobrown - That's what I do! I wipe down the flanges and put in a ziploc in the fridge then clean once a day.

My lactation consultant said that you can just throw it in the fridge in a ziplock bag in between sessions. You only need to clean with hot soapy water once or twice per day.

I was kind of lazy about it IF I knew that I'd be pumping later that day. If it was a one-time-a-day pump then I would clean them right away. I would rinse them if I planned to use them for the next feeding.

But, like @Mrs. Stroller: I have thrush, right now actually, so I my dr told me I actually needed to boil them.

I keep a "cleaning bowl" by the sink. I just throw the parts in with some soapy water and then rinse them whenever I remember that I've left them there. I'm using a manual pump, so I think it might be a bit easier to clean.

My baby was in the NICU so we have very strict rules on cleaning the pump. After every use, I soak in soapy water and I steam all my parts every day. I also make sure I wash my hands thoroughly before even touching the pump parts. One of the ladies in the NICU did not do a good job cleaning her pump and her baby got sick, so we are extremely diligent.

I typically rinse with cold water (take all pieces apart) in between sessions then wash with warm soapy at end of day.
Back at work now and am starting to try just a wipe down and put in fridge in between sessions to save time. Then wash with warm soapy water when I get home.

the LC at mt bf support group recommends what chopsuey does, but I've had thrush a couple times so I have four sets and just use once then wash in dishwasher. Sometimes I'll rinse and then use the micro steam bags.

Just wondering how thoroughly you clean your pump between sessions. I know the instructions say to take every little bit apart and clean with soapy water and dry, but I am tempted sometimes to just rinse with water.

What do you do?
