we did sleep training around 6.5 months and kept 1 feed, and she caught on pretty quickly that she was not getting nursed back to sleep at every waking. we set a time limit, if she woke after 1am, i would nurse her and put her back down awake (would usually have to change diaper to wake her up a bit after feeding her). 3 weeks later and she wakes up once a night between 12 and 4, and I just feed her then. I was hoping she would get more consistant with the time, but its pretty random. she's sick now though, so has been up more than normal and is needing cuddles to go back down, but other than that its been pretty good so far.

Eta for his one feeding I tried to make sure thr he was awake when I out him back down. Burping usually woke him up, which sometimes made him cry so then we had to do the checks.

@Mrs. Blue: when I did CIO with DD and when she was around their age, I would still go to her during her one night wake-up and feed her. She was good about going right back down though.

I responded in my Ferber thread! We picked a time frame and didn't feed before that. For us, it was 1230--6 hours after he goes to bed. If he woke before we used the checks. If he ate at 1230 or so and then woke again at 3, we again did the checks. Have you tried ever waiting 5-10 min to see if they settle? We had never done that which might be why I was surprised that Lo did so well.

I think a lot of it is going to be based on what your gut tells you. If you think it's too early to eat then maybe make him/them wait and see if he/they settle. When they wake up, can you cuddle them back to sleep without feeding?

I think we're going to do some CIO, but I'm wandering how to do it if you think LO still needs one night feeding. They boys have gone several nights with only one feeding between 9 and 5 or 6 a.m., but never have sttn. They can generally put themselves to sleep at bedtime, but need a little more help during naps. My big issue is I know they are waking up more often than they need to on many nights.

Would you let them cry for a set amount of time to see if they will settle back in and then feed them if they don't? Or do you just pick a feed time and make them wait until that time? What should it look like if they still need one feeding?
