Fluff Love University recommends storing them in something breathable, like a large pillowcase (or similar type laundry bag.) Many people on the Fluff Love FB group suggest putting them in a plastic tote with holes drilled in it.
This is suggested because without airflow, the elastics will rot and you will have to replace them.

Stripping is not necessary if your wash routine is good, it is very hard on diapers. You'll need to wash when you take them out of - so one last final wash should be sufficient. If they are clean enough to put on your LO's bum, then they are clean enough to be put into storage.

Also, it doesn't sound like you follow Fluff Love, so if/when you pull them out of storage, I highly recommend you check them out.

I wouldn't bother stripping before storage, since I'd just strip again when taking out of storage, so why do that kind of wear and tear unnecessarily. It's not like bacteria or viruses will multiply in the cloth over a year or more. Bacteria and viruses need moisture and warmth etc.

I've read to not store in the heat, and to not store in airtight containers. I think the heat is a bigger issue.

@youboots: I would vote sun them, I wouldn’t bother stripping but it’s probably a good idea! We are using ours again that I didn’t strip before storing and just shoved in a Rubbermaid and they seemed good! No issues 3 months in with second use, just hoping they fit this baby more than my gigantic first!

Blue Dawn, or any degreaser, should not be used in your washer. It voids the warranty and can strip internal parts and ruin your washer. I'd also be super cautious about using blue Dawn and also adding bleach in the same load if you're going to do the dawn thing. My washer adds the bleach during the wash cycle when there is still detergent present.
Rlr or mighty bubbles will both do a strip and are laundry safe. A bleach wash with those is also totally fine

@MamaBear87: They weren't! Ha. I did the blue Dawn stripping ... then a bleach reset. I followed the BG instructions. :)

@littlejoy: bleach and blue Dawn shouldn't be used together. It can cause toxic gas.

I'd wash them with a pod of mighty bubbles just to knock any gunk out out them. Then store them in something NOT airtight, an airtight container will ruin the elastics

I did a full strip (bleach + blue dawn - instructions can be found on Google), and stored them separately (inserts together, covers together, etc.). Since they are absorbent, I put them in large ziplock bags inside large totes.

We had no issues (even having nearly 2.5 years between uses). They're still going strong, 6 months into the second round of use.

Sooooo DD is having a lot of success with potty training, yay! We mostly cloth diaper except naps and bedtime. So now we are using pull ups. So I think it’s time to store our cloth diapers since now we only use them at childcare 12 hours a week and if we can send her in pull ups they will potty train her there.

We use BG 4.0 pockets. Is there one last wash or stripping I should do before storing? We plan on having one more child but that won’t be for awhile. I want to be sure they are ready down the road.
