They thought he would die, but he made it. He's currently in a wheelchair and has to relearn all motor skills. I think he may eventually one day be out of the wheelchair, but I'm not positive. It's really hard to instill good habits with our children if we're not following the same rules. I don't know that there's anything we could have done to avoid it since it happened so quick and it was completely his fault, he just didn't look before he turned and we had the right of way (we didn't have a stop sign we were just going straight). My friend cracked the guys windshield with her helmet covered head and I bounced off the side of the car and hit the ground with my head. Her helmet was wrecked but her head thankfully was absolutely fine. My helmet was also cracked but no head injuries. She was sore for a couple days and had some really banged up knees and I had a broken finger. When we first started dating he did it all the time, even after multiple drinks!!! Final straw was when he got hit by a man with a van while biking in Prospect Heights. He didn't have a helmet on and the only thing that saved him was the fact that he was wearing a backpack and so when he was flung through the air, the force shoved the backpack upwards and he landed with his head on it. </p> <p>I told him that I would have to end the relationship if he didn't wear a helmet going forward and so now he does.
