@Katrocap: I'm sorry! Hugs!

A principal, of all people, should know that even if you are not on the building you are working far beyond your contracted hours. What a jerk!

@Katrocap: You really only have two options: (1) learn to blow him off and not let him rent space in your head (seriously, I know this is *much* easier said than done!); or (2) find another position. I have worked in two extremely toxic work environments, and after a while (several years), I just had to get out.

Also, did he make the comment about you personally? Or was the comment more general, i.e., those who only work their contracted hours are shirking their duties?

I am going to guess that you having not been back at work for a long time has probably created some anxiety for you about returning to work. . . I would take his comments with a grain of salt, and realize that you are going to go through an adjustment period at work. And if his comment was not made specifically about you, then don't pay it anymore mind. Don't internalize comments like that . . . it's just too draining (and, usually not even about us although we are usually so willing to assume the worst)!

@Katrocap: Awww horrid work colleagues are the worst :sad: My tips are really try not to take it personally - he is obviously not a nice person and would act like this whoever you are! Also find out what your rights are.. ! Who does he report too? and do you mean he is trying to cut down your hours?

I am a teacher and my principal is a jerk. He's not very experienced and definitely is not a people person. He often acts petulant and mean-spirited. I started back work Monday after seven (glorious) months of maternity leave. Anyway, yesterday he made a passive aggressive comment on how, because I work my contracted hours and not more, I basically shirk my duties. After I left the office I broke down into tears. I was filled with anger, my feelings were hurt and it took a long time to calm down. I've worked with him for 2 years now and have yet to be able to not take things like this personally. Just wondered if anyone has tips for dealing with a bad boss.
