@turquoisemama: He was about 15 month old and sick with a cold. I noticed that when he tried to suck on it to go to sleep, he would get frustrated because he couldn't breathe and would throw it to the side. So he fell asleep without it one night and barely took it the next day since he was still so stuffy. I decided I would take the opportunity to get rid of them. So I stopped giving it to him and he forgot about it in a couple of days. It was so easy!

@turquoisemama: Yeah, I'm afraid the thrashing and screaming is normal. She won't be traumatized. Use the saline drops/mist to loosen it up, wait a minute or two, then use suction. We use this saline or the Little Remedies one.

@sapphire: She thrashes and screams bloody murder and you'd think I'm torturing her. Is this normal? I could do it while swaddling her and just hold her down but I feel like I'm traumatizing her.

@Mamasig: she's 9.5 months and I'm not married to the idea of the binkie but it helps a lot in the car and during sleep. How did you wean from the binkie?

@MrsSRS: We have the saline drops, is that what you're talking about?

Suck that nose out. Even if you have to have your spouse hold her down while you do it. I'm pretty sure one of her hundreds of colds is what sent my daughter from the paci to her thumb so she could breathe while sucking and not lose it

What do you mean she won't let you suck her nose out? In my experience it can be done even with a wiggly kiddo- helps to put a hand on the top of the head to hold it steady while sucking. Saline plus sucking would probably really help. Humidifiers also can help a lot.

How old is she? This happened with DS1 at 15 months and I took the opportunity to wean him from the binkie. If she's really young and you want to her to keep it, then you just have to wait it out.

Saline. Lots of saline. Maybe hold her down for the nose frida or bulb after using saline. And just wait it out :crying:

DD has her first cold and while I think she's on the mend, she still has a stuffy nose. She WILL NOT let us use the Nosefrida or the bulb to clear out her nose. It's not even a runny nose, just congested deep inside. Anyway, she can't suck her binkie for naps and at bedtime. This leads to long periods of fussiness, crying, and not sleeping. Am I just forced to binkie ween or hope her nose clears soon?? So frustrating.
