A lot of 2 year olds take only one nap, don't they? If he already fights his afternoon nap, I would try to see if he will lengthen his morning nap if you drop the afternoon nap. It's tough though because you won't know if that is going to work for him until much closer, and I assume you have to sign up in advance.

A lot of toddlers I know seem to nap from 1130-1200ish so an afternoon session starting at 1400 is often really convenient but 1245 just seems inconvenient for all naps!!

@hilsy85: Yeah, I think that's why the morning slots always are the first to go! Such a dilemma.

We have a similar issue--the pre school program we are looking to start next Jan would be from 2-4pm! That seems like prime nap time, I don't really get why they would have anything at that time for 2 year olds...

We take an early nap from 11:30 - 1:30. We have split preschool (morning at montessori and afternoon at another place). He just goes to the afternoon preschool for nap time.

At 2 years old I would think adequate sleep is more necessary for his development than pre-school. I wouldn't sign up for an afternoon class.

@Dandelion: The session would be 12:45-3:45 (either 3 days a week or 5). I'm hoping we could shape his schedule over the summer to work with this...

What are the times for the afternoon? Is it possible he could take a nap later? Since he has school later, it wouldn't be a huge issue to push his bedtime a little later so that he sleeps more in the morning. It takes some adjustment, though, so you'd have to get him into that pattern beforehand.

We just saw a preschool (2s class) that we really like. Only problem is, the spots they have left are in the afternoon. Right now LO is 15 months, and he still takes 2 naps (9-11 and 2:30-3:30ish - he actually likes his morning nap much more than his afternoon nap, which he fights).

Preschool is 9 months away, so there is of course no predicting what his nap schedule will be then, but for those of you who are doing/have done afternoon preschool for a 2 year old, is it a doable? Any tips?
