My favorite house that we ended up not getting had the masterr and one good size bedroom on the top floor and a larger 2nd bedroom on the first. I would have put both kids in the bedroom on the top floor.

Our bedroom is on the main floor and the kids each have their own room upstairs. I was worried about it at first, but it's totally fine. We have two separate monitors for each of their rooms, and I like that our room is separated from theirs so I don't have to tiptoe around day or night.

We started out with our kids sharing a room, but it just didn't work for them as they got older (only 8 months now). They like different sleeping environments (diff white noise and light/dark) and wake each other up when they share. Space-wise it was better for us to have them share and keep a guest room, but practically this is better. We actually keep a queen bed in one of the kid's rooms, and offer our master to guests and sleep upstairs.

When we moved to TX we could only find master bedrooms on the first floor. At first I hated it, but now I like that we are far enough away that we can let them cry it out a little when we know they are safe. Granted, when I do have to go get the kiddos in the middle of the night, I completely wake up.

We have both kids upstairs with DH and I downstairs right now (DD is 2.5, DS is 1) and this arrangement isn't bad at all. Both kids mostly STTN, so we don't often have to go up there at night, anymore.

I thought about this a lot when we were thinking about buying, since we saw a lot of condos with similar layouts. Since I'm still pregnant with #1 I decided we could make it work someone with two (down the line) but that I'd have to figure out how later on. I think a lot of it would depend on how each of them sleep (like, light sleeper, STTN early on, up multiple times a night, etc)

After much discussion, DH and i agreed to put off the house search for a few years. We really like our current financial situation, and i'm worried we'll be overwhelmed when #2 comes along. (There is no pregnancy yet!! just thinking ahead.)

So that brings us to a future dilemma. We have one bedroom on the main floor (guest room), and two bedrooms on the second floor (nursery, our bedroom). How would you change it when #2 comes along?

Just an FYI, the nursery is pretty small (but decently sized).
