@Smurfette: hahah!

I think this is starting, but without the talking - just a lot of whining. Ugh. I just try to explain that she doesn't get things back after throwing them a couple times.

@Freckles: oh totally, testing boundaries and trying patience is her favorite thing lately

@MsLipGloss: That makes sense and is totally what happens with us. It's tough to ignore when I am laying right next to her trying to get her to sleep, but I am going to have to try something other than what I am doing. And yes...My huge glass of moscato is not carb free, but it makes everything better :wink:

@Cole: cute idea! I'll have to try that in situations like that...thank you!

I am not sure it will work for the blanket situation but I offer a "surprise" option. So if I ask if they want carrots or apples and they say no to both or can't decide I ask if they want me to surprise them. I am shocked at how often they pick that option and how seldom I get backlash about the surprise. Admittedly, often I will make sure the choice is likely to make them smile like by arranging their snack in a cute pattern or dressing their teddy bear in the rejected shirt.

@NovBaby1112: Honestly, I do what I can to not react to my little's (hopefully) temporary insanity . . . I have found that if I don't react and try to appease her, she is far more likely to make a choice and move on from the situation. But if I fall into her trap, it could be a while before I get out! That, and vodka, which is thankfully carb-free! ((hugs)) mama - it's rough!

@NovBaby1112: I will usually go into her room when she's asleep and cover her up with the blanket anyways. I sometimes feel like they are trying to test our patience!

@mrsjazz: haha omg, too funny, yea I was about to lose my mind as well....I usually do what you do as well, but it's clearly not working!

@hilsy85: @Freckles: Ok, good suggestions...I just need to be more firm! I was worried about the blanket thing though bc what if she was cold? But you are right- she can grab it herself and cover herself if she is.

@Smurfette: lol. it has its perks! but this whole negotiating with a toddler thing is new to me.

After LO changes her mind once, i don't give in to her demands. If she says "blanket!" and then "no blanket!" i'll take the blanket off, fold it over her crib and tell her the blanket is there for her to take if she wants it later.

If she wants it, she can get it herself! :silly:

I usually just say, "Ok I am going to leave it here next to you and if you decide you want it you can take it" when it's something like a snack or milk or whatever. He will usually cry for a minute or two, but I walk away and then he sorts it out himself. We don't have this issue with blankets though!

@NovBaby1112: OMG. This just happened to us 2 nights ago and I thought I was going to go mad! She would throw her cover off and then cry for it. She then cried for 20 minutes because she wanted me to put the blanket in her hands!

I don't know that I am doing what I should be doing to make this situation stop, but I usually give in to her until I get too frustrated and then I ignore her. Ignoring her for the 20 minutes did work because she cried herself to sleep.

aka the "I want it!" "No, I don't want it!" phase!

My LO is starting to do this all the time lately. She will cry for something, then decide she hates it- throws it down, and then cries for it back. What the heck kid? The worst offender is her comforter on her bed. "Cover!!" I then proceed to cover her. Scream and kick "No cover! Dont want it!" I then take it off her. Rinse and repeat until I have just had enough and throw it in a different room.

What do you do when your toddler does this?
