Make a spreadsheet with what your total out of pocket would be for predicted spending. Then you can clearly see which is more beneficial and where the break even point for the plan is. Then you can decide based on if you think you will spend more or less than that point. I'd just been making a guess for YEARS until this year when I finally plotted all the data and it was quite an eye opener!

Sorry y'all I am just catching up. I have always been on plan one, which is crazy-less premium and less deductible. I gave the in network quotes-pretty much all drs in our town are in network since we have bcbs. Usually when I take the kids to the dr it's $45. Having two kids back to back we hit our deductible pretty quick, but no kids this year.

I feel like plan 1 is more worth it as long as there aren't any catches!

@MamaG: I guess that's true. And if you're only going to go to the doctor's a couple times, then that may end up being cheaper in the long run.

But I'd still go with Plan 1 because you just never know what will come up, especially with kids!

@lawbee11: Glad I'm not the only one!!

@matador84: Do you know if Plan 1 is restrictive on the network of doctors/hospitals that you can go to? And also, you're positive that there is no out of pocket max? If you want to PM me your email address, I'd be happy to take a look at the plan designs for you. I do this for a living!

Is plan 2 more expensive because you can choose whomever you want for specialists?

@Adira: some people find comfort in co pays. Plan 2 has co pays instead of paying in full for each visit until deductible is met.

I am REALLY confused. It seems like Plan 1 is better in every way... am I missing something?? It's cheaper, has a lower family deductible AND pays 100% once the deductible is met... how can Plan 2 even compare?? I feel like I HAVE to be missing something here...

Our open enrollment ends Monday and we have a choice of two plans. We don't plan on any major medical expenses this next year or medications.

Plan 1-the kids and I are 314$ premium. It is a high deductible. $3k individual, $6k family. No out of pocket max. It pays 100% after deductible met.
Plan 2-the kids and I are a $344 premium. It has a $3k Indiv/$9k family deductible. Oop max is $6350 indiv/12700 family. Pcp visits are 50$. Most all else pays 80% after deductible met.

I know our insurance blows. Any pros/cons to which I should pick and why?
