Could you create a FB profile just to donate? Without pictures and using a nickname or something? That could at least put you in touch with the organizations. What a bummer that your friends wouldn't post for you - then again, most of my friends have young babies also and I feel like BF is a constant topic of conversation so there isn't any embarrassment or anything :) Good luck! You are really thoughtful to be putting so much effort into this.

@beaker: what about contacting your local LLL?
P.s.I don't have experience but I am assuming any trustworthy organization would want screening to be done.
Local mom groups?

@coacheswife123: I'd rather not worry about a screening process, and would like to just give someone a big box of milk haha

@pelikila: eats on feets apparently also relies on facebook...

@Mrs. Blue: wouldn't that be creeper of me to approach them out of the blue?

All of my IRL friends would be too freaked out to post a facebook message for me!

Local hospitals wouldn't take it either and I didn't have facebook so I donated through the Human Milk Bank of Texas. Give them a call! The hospitals in my area referred me to them because that is where they get their donated milk. They put you through a screening process and pay for you to have a blood draw locally. After that passes then they send you a cooler box and pay the shipping to them. You just have to get the dry ice (which they reimburse you for!)

Maybe you could google if there is a Moms of Multiples group near you and ask if any of their members are interested in donated milk. So many moms with twins or triplets can't keep up with BFing their babies and would probably jump at the chance to have BM for their little ones.

@beaker: i donated thru the local chapter of hm4hb. it is a wonderful thing to do! it was really easy - you just post how much milk you have to donate and then moms in need will message you and whoever you choose will come pick it up. sometimes the moms will bring extra storage bags for you too. i did it 3 times....one was a mom who had a double masectomy, another was a mom whose baby was allergic to formula and another was a gay couple that had twins. i don't know if you can do it off of facebook though...

I had the same thing happen when DS was in the NICU. After he came home I had tons of it in the freezer. I went through the Milkshare website. I was put together with a lady whose adopted son was having bad reactions to all kinds of formula. She bought a styrofoam container and sent it overnight via FedEx, along with another shipping label so that I could fill the cooler, strap it closed and send it back, all at her cost. I had too much for that cooler, so we did it again a couple days after for the rest of my stash.

http://milkshare.birthingforlife.com/

I'm actually hoping to be able to donate again, since I always have an over supply of milk. I'd love to help someone else on a regular basis.

HM4HB is definitely the way to go. I know of many mamas who have received milk through them. Congrats! It will be an amazing feeling to donate. You should be soo proud of yourself!

Do you have any Homebirth midwives in your area? If you contact one, many times they can set you up with a mama in need. I've donated hundreds of ounces this way. It's a wonderful feeling :-)

@Sapphiresun: hospitals in my area won't take it. The HM4HB page appears to work only via facebook... Hmm. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with donating through them?

Wow, I can get an extra 2-5oz/day at MOST. Way to go.
I googled breastmilk donation Maryland, and it does appear that there's a "Human Milk for Human Babies" chapter. Their facebook page doesn't have much information, but the national organization has a "contact us" on their website, and they may be able to refer you along without facebook?

http://hm4hb.net/

No idea what the organization is all about, so certainly not advocating a donation there. Here our local children's hospital accepts it directly, so that might be an idea?

(I realize this is an awesome.problem to have, and hope I don't come off as ungrateful)

So I have a problem. I've been pumping every 2-4 hours since early Sept, and due to LOs feeding issues he never got much in the beginning so I have a huge freezer stash from his time in the NICU, which at this point keeps getting bigger. Like, I think I'm freezing an extra 18-30oz every day, and have well over 1000oz filling up my deep freezer and my MILs.

At this point I also know its better for LO to get fresh milk, so I haven't been rotating it out. If I wanted to donate it, how do I begin? I'm not on FB so can't find a group there. I asked at the NICU but they don't facilitate anything, and it would have to be informal since I haven't done any tests or anything.

Not sure what else to do! DH says I should look up ice cream recipes...
