my LO started pushing his one MOTN feeding later and later--2am, then 3am, then 4am. a couple of times he STTN with no MOTN feeding. i was at a similar point where you are, sensing that he could go the whole night but not sure what to do.

i did what others suggested, and tried shortening his nursing session. sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. as in, after the shortened nursing session, i would put him in the crib awake (before that i would nurse him to sleep, so easy). a few times he went back to sleep after fussing for 10-15 minutes, other times he didn't and/or i felt miserable about the whole thing and went back and nursed him to sleep. then once or twice he nursed. popped off, but wasn't asleep and didn't relatch despite my attempts! at that point i felt more comfortable letting him CIO because i knew he was not hungry.

at some point after that he dropped the MOTN feeding--whether it had anything to do with my haphazard methods, i don't know.

whatever you decide to do, good luck! even if you guys decide to leave the MOTN feeding alone, rest assured that's pretty spectacular for that age!

Well, we tried the paci like, a couple weeks ago. maybe longer. whenever mrs. blue posted about the magical drop a MOTN feeding. Didn't work, so I filed it away to try again later. Sometimes she eats maybe an ounce...and then i think, "wow, she must have not been hungry".

yeah we could drop the bottles down to 3 oz. I can do that tonight.

Well, my LO is on formula, so i'm sure that makes a difference!

i agree with @hilsy85, if she doesn't want paci and is waking shortly after, she is probably actually hungry. At 15 weeks my LO was waking up 3x to feed lol, so it sounds like your LO is doing awesome! i would say when she starts waking around 2-4am and is drinking hardly anything, then maybe you could try to get her to stop waking up.

I tried everything to get her to drop the MOTN feeding, but in the end I decided to go off of what I read from Weissbluth that said that she was probably just hungry and to feed them up until 9 months if they have otherwise good sleep habits.

Like @hilsy85: said, at that age, one waking is not too bad. My LO just finally started STTN at 7.5 months, she now sleeps 11 hours straight.

Honestly, if she's not satisfied with the paci, and is waking an hour later to eat, it seems like she's still hungry...

One method I've heard for night weaning is to gradually reduce the amount in each bottle, so that even if it is habit, she eventually won't wake for 1/2 oz, you know?

Personally, at that age, I would be THRILLED with one wakeup, but I can imagine that you would love a whole night of uninterrupted sleep :)

E is almost 15 weeks old and about 14 lbs or so. She has a 6 oz bottle before bed around 9pm. Then she wakes up between 2 and 4am, has a 2-4 oz bottle (sometimes all, sometimes just a nip...), then goes back down til about 530-630am. Sometimes she eats first thing when she wakes up, but sometimes (like today), she wanted NOTHING to do with food, even though it'd been 5 hours since her least meal.

Dh and I are talking about trying to drop her 2-4am bottle. We think she might be waking up out of habit. We aren't sure how to determine if she's waking up hungry or just eating habitually.

Any tips on how to do this? In the past, i've put her pacifier in and she'll suck vigorously on him and sometimes get pissed that there's no food coming...but sometimes she'll doze back off, then just wake up an hour later, wanting to eat.

She still sleeps in a RnP next to us.
