I just wanted to update just in case it’s helpful for someone else- LO is pooping on the potty. We backed off and just let him poop in the pull up on top of the potty. Now he does it without the pull-up.

We worked on this early during quarantine and it was awful. We were wearing underwear except during nap time and he’d always poop them. The last straw was when he pooped during nap time and then decided to play with it and colored all over his walls with it.... ewww!

At that point we took pull-ups away except at night. It basically was the end of him actually sleeping, but he will now run out of the room during nap time to poop.

We had this struggle with our younger. She was very routine and went at about the same time daily. When she would refuse I had her run laps in our hallway to really get her system ready. She would still fight but I had to do a lot of emotional support. And then praise after the fact. We also went through one bought of constipation with her and it was awful.

We just did potty training again after giving up in April (he’s just over 3 now). For us, it was about finding his “price”. In our case, it was watching Blippi on YouTube while sitting on the potty and prizes of matchbox cars when he got one in there. The first one was hard, he wanted the car, but cried when he was getting the poop out (it was soft, so I think it was fear over pain). Second one was better, third one was easypeasy. Poop-training is one case where I bribe hard.

We are still working on this! DS is sitting in the potty with the pull up, cut a hole in the pull up and he got upset! He said he was scared :/ - I’m going to try the App mentioned above and wondering if the stool under the toilet will help with the fear? Any stool suggestions where he can put his feet? He will poop on the potty with his pull up IF it does not have a hole. He’s excited when the poop goes in but also does not like it... 🤷🏾‍♀️. Help!

this sounds absolutely insane but it worked with both of my kids (and i just finished up with PT my 2.5 year old son).

I told them both that fish in the ocean eat poop from the potty. So in order for the fish to have (breakfast, lunch, dinner...whatever time your kid likes to poop), he has to poop in the potty.

We still have occasional accidents (like, I can tell if he isn't sure if its a poop or fart and whoops, its a poop) or if he had a diet change and the poo just comes out too fast). But our hit rate is probably 85% which is pretty good from being in full on diapers a month ago. Also, tight undies gave him the sensation of a diaper. I'd go no undies and just pull down shorts if you can.

We used an app, created by the NHS called Poo Goes Home to Pooland. Whenever we noticed my daughter was holding on or resisting the toilet we would ask her if she wanted to watch the Poo story and she would watch it and within a few days was regularly using the toilet.

Oh I was just here and we’re still working through it with school but home we’ve got it. He actually started at school because they had a treasure box, so we implemented one at home. He got a small toy or a small baggy of candy/cookies but the fact he picked made a HUGE difference. We also went without underwear for a week so he got super crabby first, but finally realized that he didn’t want to poop down his leg (underwear was too much like a diaper) and told us he had to go. Keep going, it’s hard.

Make sure he has his feet planted fully on a stool if you don’t already have one. It’s extremely difficult to poop with dangling feet

We made a big deal about the flush part of the poop on the potty. That became the incentive to do it there bs in the pull-up. To get there we let her watch us a few times. 🤷🏼‍♀️

After one failed potty training attempt I read the Ins and Outs of Poop. The Bees wrote a blog post about it years ago. I threw all the recommended methods at DS and he got it figured out quickly. Demonstrating pooping by squeezing Play-Doh out of my fist seemed particularly enlightening for my son.

Hello!

DS has underwear and will pee on the potty. He use to poop only in the pull-up. Preschool they will not allow the pull up. I’ve been working on pooping on the potty and he won’t. He will sit and read books. We’ve watched Daniel the Tiger, read books etc and he hops off when he knows it is coming but has been holding it. Any suggestions? TIA
