@fussygal: Hopefully your doctor gets back soon. I breastfed till he was two and we used splash as a supplement because he was Failure to Thrive. So he had 2 a day a believe. But I know other people do use it all the time.

I just saw they have some rice cereal style foods that may be helpful too (for adding extra calories) since she is 8 months old. That may work out better and you may be able to add purees to it to flavor it. They didn't have this when we were going through everything. It is called neocate nutra.

@brownie: My trip isn't until mid-January so we still have some time. I may go Christmas shopping some day this week and maybe she'll take it from DH or my mom. Do you know how long you were gone before your LO took it? When you started using the splash supplement did you use it every feeding? I'm just now hearing about it!

I haven't talked to her doctor yet because she's out on maternity leave and the other doctor in her practice is a legit quack (as in told a mom to feed her newborn ice cream when the baby wasn't gaining weight).

You haven't gone on the trip yet right? Have you gone away for a long time and had someone else try feeding. My son refused it after eating it just fine for a week. Just a few more months and you can move to the splash supplement. Have you talked to your doctor?

@brownie: Thanks. One week in and we're having issues getting her to take it. I used up the last of my frozen milk to cut it a few times and she took a little bit, but not much. Now that I am trying to give it to her straight she is refusing it. I'm so stressed that she won't take it :( It's like I'm producing just enough to keep her somewhat satisfied (although very frustrated) and she isn't desperate enough to try the formula.

@fussygal: good luck that stuff is awful. My son ate it like it was going out of style for one week and then wouldn't touch it. We had more success with neocate splash after 1 year old.

It may be easier when you aren't an option. We introduced neocate (no transition) when I went on a work trip for 1 week.

@LovelyPlum: Thank you! :) We bought some Neocate (OMG $$$) since I'm still eliminating both soy and dairy. Fingers crossed!

@fussygal: good luck, lady! Hoping it goes smoothly. What are you going to give her? You all haven't reintroduced dairy yet, right?

@jhd: @HappyBaker: @Mae: Thanks, ladies! We'll try a mix tomorrow. I have one lonely bag of frozen breastmilk in the freeze that we'll experiment with. :)
@Mae: That's my other worry is that she won't like the switching! I'll guess try to pump at least 1/2 of what's needed while I'm away and hopefully she'll take that mix for those two days.

We did the same as @happybaker: . We did 2/3 bm and 1/3 formula, then half and half and then 1/3 bm and 2/3 formula, and then formula.

But I'll warn you that my baby was not really okay with switching back and forth between milk and formula (granted she's a super fussy eater). So we ended up mixing bottles for every meal rather than give her some milk bottles and some formula bottles (I EP'd).

We mixed it - started with 1/4 formula to 3/4 breastmilk and then kept increasing until it was a full bottle.

Could you mix it with BM at first and slowly add more and more formula?

Long story short - I'm having some minor (I hope) supply issues and while waiting for it to rebound we're introducing formula to DD for the first time. We've only tried it once so far and she refused, as I expected she would. She isn't a big fan of solids, and anything other than breast milk is usually a no-go for her. Ideally I'd like her to take 1 bottle of formula a day. Also, I have a 48 hour work trip in 6 weeks and I won't have enough milk pumped for the full two days so she'll likely NEED to take the formula. Ack - help!
