@graceandjoy: @Pumuckl: yeah, we should just cut the naps. He's just sooooo tired and grumpy. he napped today again for an hour 😬 My husband has been in there for an hour trying to get him to bed (this is pretty usual tho, at least an hour bedtime 😭). And I'm here scrolling Instagram 🤷

@pachamama: Buuur it does look cold!

@Pumuckl: Yess that was totally my kids. I have no idea how some people's kids nap and still go to bed relatively early. I even have to cap car naps!

I have found naps to royally screw up bedtime and overall-sleep-time at some point so we worked on skipping naps and then just getting them in bed early (as in 7-7:30pm). That was hard for a couple of days but then they all went to solidly sleeping at night.

My DS1 didn’t sleep in until he started kindergarten at 5.5. He’s in grade 1 now and sleeps later. Mornings are hard when I have to wake him up. He’s had a 7:30 bedtime for a long time.

Can you slowly move his bedtime earlier so he gets more sleep.

If you get a clock start with his natural wake up time and adjust the time to get it where you want. This helped when we used one.

I’m sure it’s not as good as the $50 ones, but he likes it’s little caterpillar head :). Good luck!!!

@CObee: my FB group just recommended a red/green clock! Which one do you have? My guy is usually a rule follower. It might work!

My 3 year old was a 4am riser for more than a year - it was torture! Last year I got an ok-to-wake clock on amazon, got him super excited about seeing the magic green light that means it’s morning, and instituted a hot wheels bribery system if he stays in bed and doesn’t call out until the light comes on. Granted he is a rule follower and I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but it seriously has worked since the first day and I kicked myself for not trying it sooner.. I think it took a little while before he was actually sleeping later, but it did happen and is freaking amazing. Makes daylight saving time waaaay easier to adjust to too! It might be worth a try!

@graceandjoy: agreed. More than 30 screws us. Time to wake him up. And we have a preschool 'Walk in the (freezing) woods' event soon. He will NOT BE HAPPY.

@pachamama: Aww poor baby. When the girls dropped naps we usaully allowed like a max 15 min nap; we found that usually didn't affect bedtime, but anything more than 10-15 min would.

@graceandjoy: yeah good idea to move bedtime earlier. My husband does his bedtime and is afraid of him, but he needs to go down earlier. And also, you're right, it's not bad to have unrushed mornings. I'm up at 445 🤣
He just fell asleep sitting up (I laid him down). He's so, so tired. Sigh.

@pachamama: I actually prefer them waking up early too (I mean, I do love my sleep and all), it makes for a much slower paced morning rather than a mad dash to get ready and get out! But I feel you!

Could you try moving his bed time just ever so slightly earlier, like 10 minutes for a few nights, then 15, etc? Maybe it takes longer for it to stick?

@graceandjoy: yes, this is already how my 2 kids are. Ds1 always, always woke around 5/530. DS2 wakes around 630/645. Im returning to work in a few weeks and leave at 645 so I guess this isn't a bad thing 🙄

I have to say some of that it's really just the individual kid too. My 1st NEVER sleeps in; we always kept a pretty strict bed time because she will wake up the same time, if not earlier. However, her sister has a better ability to sleep in than her! And obviously they go to bed at the same time, has the same schedule, etc. I don't think I've EVER had to wake DD1 up, where as I frequently have to wake DD2 up.

Daylight savings screwed up our schedule so my 3y10m son is now waking an hour early. He wakes at 5:30am. If he naps, he doesn't fall asleep til 8:45/9pm so we usually skip them so he can fall asleep at 8/8:15. Haven't had much luck moving bedtime earlier. He is soooo tired all the time. Should I invest in a Hatch? He is absolutely not the type of kid who will "play in his room" quietly til we get up. Probably hopeless but wondering if there's any way we can get him to sleep in longer.
