I am 21 weeks and recently having some trouble sleeping as well. DH got me the snoogle and that has allowed me to sleep much longer and more soundly--I am not tossing and turning to get comfy. I also try to limit my liquids intake before bed so that I don't have to pee as often. Finally, we have a fan in our room just for white noise as well as a humidifier that I add a drop or two of lavender oil to--that seems to be a nice, relaxing sleepy touch.

@Thehistoryofus: Agreed!

I never slept that great once my belly started getting in the way, and I was too chicken to take unisom or anything. Towards the end, I accepted sleepless nights were my fate, and I would even use the awake time to my advantage bc I went crazy nesting in the last few weeks of third tri.

Not very helpful-Sorry!

my sleep has been poor the past couple of weeks (i'm 38 weeks). i was stressing about it for a while and have just tried to accept it and listen to soothing music to doze off (i know, not very helpful). but if my sleep problems had started earlier, i would have talked to my OB about a sleep aid. at this point i figure i can muddle through until the *real* sleep deprivation hits!

Unisom. Seriously, I had such bad insomnia that my OB told me to take 1/2 tablet a night. It worked really well. I still woke up to pee but tossed and turned much less.

I have no advice - I'm 32 weeks and have to get up 2-3 times a night to pee, plus it takes me FOREVER to fall asleep, especially the first time.

I do think working out probably helps though - the days I work out, I tend to be able to fall asleep quicker.

I am sorry. Pregnancy sleep just kinda sucks.

You can always talk to your OB about it because I do think there are some safe things you can take.

The days that I work out I have noticed that I sleep 100 times better. I have had weeks through out pregnancy that I haven't slept good. Unisom or Tylenol PM help me sleep when I am having trouble.

I've been SO exhausted lately (22 weeks) and I know it's from not sleeping well. I toss and turn and get up 2-3 times to pee and once to let the dog out and I don't always fall straight back to sleep. I've tried going to bed earlier but that just leads to more awake periods during the night.

Last night I slept on the couch and it was the most sleep I've gotten in a long time. But I don't think that's a sustainable solution since DH is usually up pretty late and likes to watch tv in the living room.

What do you do to improve your sleep during pregnancy?
