We decided to give her a slightly bigger reward and see if it helps but I wanted to bump this for any other tips!

So we're still having some resistance from her. Yesterday she peed twice in the potty and had one accident. Today she had three accidents (two were poop) and peed once in the potty. I've had to tickle her until she peed because I knew she had to go but she was holding it (she was wiggling, crossing her legs, grabbing at herself). I don't want to get in the habit of having to tickle her that much until she goes but eventually it might help, right? She gets really excited when she goes, she just resists every time. We're still pretty frustrated but trying to push through because she told us she wants her underwear and not her diapers.

If it had been awhile since my DD had peed and I knew she needed to I would stick her hands in warm water. She was totally trying to hold it in, but this really made the difference. We only had to do it a couple days.

I act silly with them. I sat them on the potty and made fart/ zerbert sounds at them and got them to make fart sounds back. My older daughter likes to hear how food goes in her mouth, then her body gets lots of energy for running and playing and thinking and whatever is left comes out as a big poopy. She likes looking in the potty at the poop and hearing wow, kinda gross but it works. Both of them went through a phase of putting their toys on the potty, wiping their bums and then pretending to flush

I finally got to the point where I loaded my son up on tons of juice, then 20-30 minutes later we camped out in the bathroom until he had to pee.

For poop it took catching him in mid-poop to get him to link it in his mind.

Now he's pretty well house trained, we just have to get him to go when we are out and about.

My daughter did a lot of this. She even held her pee til she cried. We did outings with pull ups and she would go in those which we were ok with because we didn't want her to get a UTI. It took a couple weeks of trying and spending more time at home with no diapers and she did eventually get it and by about the third week she just got over her fears all of a sudden. It took a little longer (a few more days) for poop and now we're just working on making sure she goes when we're out. At home she just runs to her bathroom and goes and calls me to come wipe her (I don't trust her yet!) but out she will deny she has to go because she gets nervous about loud public bathrooms.

This sounds like exactly how potty training started with my daughter. We just kept her bottomless and one day she got it. She went over to her potty chair and went without saying anything to us. Shes been good about it ever since. It's almost like once we stopped asking her, she went.
I don't know if it makes a difference that we used a potty chair vs a ring, but either way I just think it takes time! Hang in there

I would probably put her back in a pull up and tell her we can keep trying any time she feels like she has to go... But she can't have big girl panties until she has some success using the potty. Starting a cycle of holding poop can lead to bad constipation so I would probably also start giving her some miralax.

I'll add that we were going to give it one more week and if there's no more progress and she's not peeing in the potty at least, we're going to take a week off since it's her birthday week then the 20 we have her check up so I would ask for tips there.

@lamariniere: That's comforting that she might get it in the somewhat near future. She acknowledges that she has to go but she just doesn't want to go on the potty and I'm not sure why. I feel like we just need a couple of times for her to get it and that it's the last piece to her being potty trained. She actually did take herself a few times yesterday (she got a sticker for it and it's her only one).

Sometimes it just takes awhile. I speculate that kids have to "learn" to do their business sitting down because I think most of them are used to doing it standing up. My son took 2 weeks to figure out how to poo on the toilet. He knew what he was supposed to do, but just couldn't/wouldn't do it on the toilet. It sounds like she has the right idea but just needs to feel more comfortable to actually do it. Maybe try letting her just hang out on the toilet for a few minutes by herself so she can try to get comfortable and think about it?

So we started potty training last Thursday. She's naked from the waist down and picked to have a seat on the toilet as opposed to a little seat. She gets rewards for going and had a chart that she has to fill up with stickers to get a bigger reward.

She knows she doesn't need to wear diapers and she tells me she's supposed to go in the potty. But she has accidents when she has to pee and she holds poop like her life depends on it. Sometimes she even pees immediately after getting off the potty? And she keeps telling me she has to poop and even kept going to go by herself yesterday but wouldn't go. Last night, we put her diaper on (we're just day training) and I told her to go ahead and poop to relieve pressure. She said "I have to go but I go in the potty, not my diaper. But I don't want to go in the potty."

She's only used the potty twice and once was because I stopped her mid accident to move her. This is progress though, right? She won't tell me why she won't go on the potty but she asks for her diaper off in the morning. Any suggestions on how to get her to relax? We've tried books, songs, different people going, rewards just for trying, and watching thinngs like daniel tiger's potty episode. Any other advice? I don't know why she won't go in the potty when we take her but she's all excited about her seat and underwear and all of that.
