@shopaholic: I think naked time is helpful. Whenever we are in our yard I try to let T be naked. She has started trying to watch herself when she pees now! Also, look up "toilet learning." We were doing well with this method and having some success- basically putting her on the potty several times a day, at specific times (before/after meals, sleeping, etc.). She will occasionally communicate that she needs to use the potty. Mostly she doesn't, but like you I don't really have expectations around it. We talk about pee, too- like she often comes to the bathroom with me and my husband, and we talk to her about the process. We were at the farm the other day and a cow was peeing and she shouted "peeee!"

The other night she did ask to get out of the tub and onto the potty so that she could poop. The whole process has been worth it just for that one moment, because it meant I didn't have to deal with poop in the tub!

@mrsjyw: Ooh! Those sound like good signs he's near or ready! Good luck!

@sandy: Thanks for that link! I will bookmark and read it many times as well, I'm sure!

@prettylizy: Ooh! 22 month sounds even more ideal to me, with all the travel coming up. I worried it would interfere with any progress if we made any at all. I will have to search for that PDF. The one you're referencing is the one you pay for right?

@sapphire: I don't have any expectations. I've just read there is a window of opportunity around this time, and since she is voluntarily going to sit on the potty lately, I thought I'd try to help her along. She is very into her Potty book with sounds. We have a couple of potty books I keep by the potty and she enjoys sitting on it and flipping through them. In the U.S. I know the norm is closer to 2.5, but we just got back from Taiwan and people start PT around 1 y.o! Not that I expect that at all - LO couldn't even walk at 12 months yet. Much less let me know she has to pee. lol!

She doesn't sound ready to me. 18 months is about the earliest that kids usually start to have some readiness, so you are very early. I'd keep having her sit in it, but it's going to be tiufh to get past that until she knows when she has to go. You might start with reading some potty books or one of the potty movies with her.

We just did the three day mothod, I got my hands on a PDF copy of the book. She recommends 22 months as the sweet spot age wise to potty train, DD is 2.5 and has it down after her three days.

@shopaholic: at that age we just got her familiar with the potty and every once in awhile she would pee or poo but it was just lucky timing. At that age it's difficult for them to understand how their bladder works - so we kind of have to teach them to make that connection (think Pavlov's dogs). I've read everywhere that under 2.5 you can teach them basically cause/effect of how to use the potty using the 3 day bottomless method. If they're older it's not effective but when they're young it can be very effective. We did the 3 day method at 24 months with success and I know it's worked for lots of people. I read this banycenter article over and over

DS (21 months) just started showing signs the last few months. We've had a potty since around 13 months. But, the last few months he's been pulling off his pants, telling us before he's about to poop, etc. We've had a handful of times when we've given him diaper free time where he's sat himself on the potty and actually peed.

We're taking his lead as far as readiness and we're not proactively doing anything aside from telling/showing him when we "go potty."

I have been putting LO on the potty seat here and there, since she turned 1. No expectations. I just wanted her to get comfortable with the potty and sit on it while I go to the bathroom too. Now, at almost 18 months, she is willing to sit on it longer and goes to sit on it herself. I think she thinks it's just another fun chair. But I've read people say there is a window period around this age you can sometimes get them potty trained.

LO will sit on the potty, but nothing has ever come out. She has no tell/signs for pee or poop, doesn't verbalize it, doesn't even care if she has a dirty diaper. So I just want some help to get her to go in the potty a few times so she gets the association. Yesterday I tried pouring a little bit of warm water on her while she sat on the potty - maybe help the feeling come? Well, she thought it was hilarious to play with the water in the potty. I've tried "showing" her, when I go (what we won't do as mothers?! lol), but I would love some more tips on how to get the flow started. pun intended.

Any tips? TIA!
