My lo1 is also a milk-lover and rarely drank water until recently, but she loved coconut water, which really helps with constipation!

Will he eat soup? Clementines and grapes? That's not quite enough by itself, but it helps.

I would just stop... It will suck for a few days and then be over. It's worth it. Ds1 was basically only eating dairy for a while around 2 and I cut out all milk except for bedtime.

@MsMini: @Rocker2014: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @KT326: Thanks for the tips! I tried it this morning, but I must have been too aggressive with the water because he drank part of it and then said "I no like this milk." :silly: I'll have to ease him into it a little more.

We did the same as others and watered it down. We didn't have an issue with him drinking plain water, he just loved his milk too! But his iron was really low and the ped told us it could be because of too much milk.

LO recently went through a “more milk” phase and we cut the milk with water. Now he’s into having both his water and milk cup with him and he drinks both.

We had good luck with watering down milk at that age. I have no idea how a doctor would feel about it, but LO was a milk monster from day 1, and initially was fairly resistant to water. We started giving her cups of approximately 1/3 milk with 2/3 water throughout the day, and she drank them happily! Eventually, she got into drinking water, and at age 3 it isn't an issue anymore and she gets regular milk at predictable times and water the rest of the time. (though she still hates any kind of juice or other sweet drink). And now she can tell the difference, and tells me, "don't put water in that milk, Mama!" Lol!

Any strategies to get a toddler to drink more water? My 2yo DS struggles with constipation and I know it's primarily because he drinks a lot of milk and refuses to drink much water. He also won't drink any kind of juice, whether we water it down or not.

We've tried limiting to mealtimes and getting him to drink water between meals, but then he'll just wait for mealtime and chug his milk. Do I just cut it out cold turkey? Our ped said he doesn't need it for calories/fat anymore, but I don't know if I have the energy to deal with the imminent meltdowns of trying to wean him off it completely...
