Ugh, breathing stuff is tough. My DS has got a lot better at tolerating inhalers as he's got older and more able to understand, but when he was younger I did have success with using a nebuliser with a mask - I would wait until he was asleep in his cot and then creep in and hold it over his face (not quite touching) while he slept. Obviously depends what sort of sleeper you've got though!

@HappyBaker: Can you use an inhaler with chamber instead? We have both a nebulizer, and the inhaler, and the inhaler is SO much easier. Our ped said the concentration and effect are about the same.

Thanks all! Unfortunately he is SO not into screen time. I wish he was!! We have both a mask and a piece from the hospital that we got when he was a baby that just blows it in his face so we just try to follow him around with either.

@MamaG: He hasn't used his pacifier in months but that is a great idea, I'll give it a shot.

We let our son watch tv on the iPad. He was fought it at first, but once he realized he got to watch tv, he was psyched!

Chewing on the mouthpiece instead of the mask helped a lot. Also screentime, at that age he preferred songs - Bob zoom in Netflix is pretty good. Good luck! I just held in in my lab with one arm over his body down to between his, lefs, the other supporting the mouthpiece.

We use the mask. She gets her pacifier and pets a stuffed animal. We play music on the phone from her daycare or sing to her. We also rock in the rocker throughout.

Did they give you a mask or the thing you put in your mouth? We have both, but he prefers the one you put in your mouth. Honestly, you don't have to make him keep the mask on the whole time...just kind of follow him around with it and as long as he's breathing in some, it's doing some good. We try to break it up in 5 minute increments. Sometimes he'll do it himself now. When he fights it, we just give him a break and try again after a few minutes. But I think the biggest thing is just maybe holding it yourself and just keeping it close to his face without the mask actually touching. Good luck. Lung stuff isn't fun...we go through it regularly.

My sister was super strict with screen time but started letting my nephew watch shows on the iPad when she had to do the be ukulele. But I think he was older- I don't know if it would work as well on a one year old.

DS just turned 1 and has possible pneumonia right now. Last winter he had RSV twice but he was a tiny baby so giving him nebulizer treatments wasn't hard since he just sat still! Now that he is a crazy toddler we are having so much trouble giving him the treatments. Today I ended up strapping him in his carseat for two because otherwise I have to hold his hold body and arms down :-(. He is so upset by them! Any tips much appreciated.
