@pastemoo: I don't think it smells like sour milk really but just this weird milky smell. I dont really know how to describe it! It doesn't smell like regular milk to me...but I don't drink milk either.

I clean my washer by running bleach on the strongest, hottest cycle and then run it again to get rid of the bleach. Could also you vinegar if you're not a fan of bleach.

@JessLC: :) Babies (well newborns) smell good! Like milk but not like sour milk.

@mrs. wagon: thanks! Will try that. Also read that baking soda or oxyclean does the trick.

This happens with us too. I like to pour the detergent directly onto the things that get soaked with milk or spitup (burpcloths, bibs, etc) and that usually helps.

@BeachMama: they make tablets/powders for front loaders. They are notorious for making things have a sour smell.

Hah. I made my mom and SIL smell the burp cloths and they thought I was crazy. They said "it smells like babies!" Maybe I'm being overly sensitive.

Never had a milk smell problem but in my last place the washer needed cleaning and everything that was clean still smelled bad.

I know when I have things that smell, I let it soak in vinegar for a little bit and that helps with any smell issue. I don't know about spoiled milk though.

I've never had this issue either! I use either Dreft or All Free and Clear, and use Baby Oxyclean with it.

You could try using a little bit of oxyclean. We use Dreft and haven't had any problems. I've tried on of the free & clear detergents before and didn't like it. My clothes didn't seem to come out clean. I didn't like OxyBaby either.

ETA: Could your washer need cleaning? That might help.

Hmm. I use free and clear and they don't smell either. They don't even really smell that bad before I wash them. How long are you letting them sit for?

Hmmm I do laundry in homemade detergent, no fragrance, and don't have that issue. Try Borax? It's a laundry booster.
