we had to give LO antibiotics twice when she was 1 month and then at 4 months. we pressed the syringe when it was far back into her cheek. she gagged, screamed, coughed, choked, but swallowed it. poor thing :( she doesn't like bottles or pacifiers, so we were never able to "trick" her that way.

Our doctor recommended against adding to a bottle due to if they taste it and decide they still don't like it you don't have any idea how much they actually got of the dose. Once we started with the putting it in her cheek, we didn't have any more problems. I never thought about just using a bottle nipple, that's a great suggestion.

Thanks everyone!! We'll try putting it in his cheek towards the back of his mouth and hope he just swallows. He screamed last time so anything has got to be better than our first attempt. If that doesn't work we'll try putting it into a nipple!

I just make sure I put the syringe deep in the hollow of his cheek. Once it was that close to his throat he instinctively swallowed.

@LaineysMom: yeah. The zantac we had to mix with milk because it's in an alcohol base and it's gross! I think most other kids meds are much sweeter.

Same here! I squirt it in a spare nipple. Even if it's thick and it takes a few minutes she'll suck it right down.

We added amoxicillin to LO's bottles and she gulped them down like normal.

Also, another trick I use to get her to take liquid medicine is I actually put the dose into a bottle nipple (no bottle, just the nipple). Just hold your finger over the hole, but she will readily take the nipple in her mouth because she is used to it and sucks reflexively, and voila! Meds taken and no fight!

Owen has his first 2 teeth coming in as well as an ear infection. His ped prescribed amoxicillin (spelling?) but he just spits it out when we put the syringe in his mouth. Any tips? Is it worth trying to add it to his bottle of milk?
