I would ask them when you greet them at the door with a little reminder that you are a no-shoes inside household. If they don't like it, they don't have to be invited back.

I ask politely. If someone were to refuse, I would probably just suck it up but then never invite them over ever again!

@shopaholic: So cute!

We don't have a no shoe rule, but I don't mind taking my shoes off in other people's house. Actually I hate wearing shoes so I prefer it. Usually if I see a place for shoes in the entrance way I'll get the hint.

Hey! I live in WI too! at both of our doors (front and back) we have a mat that has shoes on it. Normally people get the hint when they see that

I would get this sign (well, actually, I am going to get or make a sign) and put it outside the front door:

We are having LO in December, and live in WI. I am strictly no shoes in the house,and with a baby it makes me cringe thinking of having people walk on our carpet with their shoes on, and then my perfect little baby crawling in their germs-yes I realise this might sound crazy. Especially with all the winter mess that can get brought in.

Anywho, some of my ILs don't remove their shoes when they come to our home, even when we are all barefoot. How do you handle shoes and guest?
