Breaking news: Wagon Sr. (who is home with her today) felt her top left tooth breaking through. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! I was only checking the bottom since Wagon Jr.'s first two teeth were the bottom ones, and it took a long time before the top ones came in!

My poor, poor baby :(

C started teething at 3 months and cut her first 2 teeth when she was 4 months, so I totally understand.

The only thing that really helped was regular doses of Tylenol.

She's pretty happy during her awake times (very distractible) but when it's time to nap in the late afternoon or sleep for the night she is inconsolable. We couldn't get the teething tablets since everything closed yesterday for the hurricane but Wagon Sr. got them this morning and already tried one... we gave her tylenol before her nap but she woke up at the 30 min mark, so he gave her a tablet and rocked her back to sleep, and she slept for another 1.5 hours! Hoping the tablets are doing the trick.

I also ordered an amber teething necklace. I've been reading about them and I'm really intrigued. It's coming on Friday, I'll let you all know in a blog post what I think!!!

Maybe just do the tylenol during the night and at day time you can use ice-like things, such as a frozen wet wash cloth?

@glimmersnaps: I agree with distractions! Taking LO out and looking at new things calmed him down!

Sorry I'm not much of a help. M and my nephew were both teething by 3 months. Besides a lot of drooling, ear pulling and everything in mouth it was never bad enough where she cried all the time. There were a few occasions where we used tablets. But I would only give one at a time. Hers finally popped through -2 in a row!- at 5.5 months and my nephews at 4.5 months.

Teething tablets worked SO well when my son was teething. We used hyland's (the newer ones after the recall). We dissolved one in his mouth and then kind of smeared it across his gums. When it got really bad, we did one teething tablet + acetaminophen. Worked every time!

I also had an early teether (3 mos.) and it was really difficult. We used Hylands teething gel at first because at that time the tablets were off the market. Later we used the tablets. Nursing was the best relief for him and distraction, distraction, distraction. I would try to be out of the house during his fussy times and he was much happier. Even just looking out the window would help.

I've done tylenol plus baby oragel with DS when he's really in a lot of pain, and that does help. I only use a little tiny bit (even less than the recommended dosing) though because it's powerful stuff. Another trick: hold an ice cube on your thumb for a couple minutes so it gets really cold. Thrn rub your thumb hard against her gums. It helps numb the pain and helps the tooth break through.

DS was also an early teether; he got his first at 3 months and hasn't stopped yet!

teething tablets! seriously, they are a life saver. my LO started teething at 3 months too, and now at 6 months finally got his 1st tooth. My ped told me not to use baby orajel bc it heals the gums and doesn't allow the tooth to break through and could make teething worse? I'm not sure how true that is, but I highly recommend the teething tablets.

LMW is definitely teething. She was happy as a clam during the day but having trouble going to bed at night-- she'd go down totally normally but then wake up screaming every 30 minutes all the way until 10:30pm. Finally one night I gave her tylenol and she went down without a peep and stayed asleep for 7 hours-- almost her record! She's been drooling like crazy and putting her hands in her mouth, so I know it's teething. Plus Wagon Jr. got his first tooth right around this age, and according to my mom I also got my teeth at this age.

The problem? She's only THREE MONTHS OLD.

Wagon Jr. was NOT this bad-- he had two nights where he screamed for a few hours, and then he was totally fine. I think it must be getting a lot worse because even with regular doses of tylenol today, she was a terror all afternoon, just screaming and screaming, and even though she was down for good by 8:30pm, she screamed pretty much from 5-8pm. It is so heartbreaking. Nothing is helping-- she won't finish her bottle, she takes a paci if I hold it in her mouth but then gets frantic, I tried a frozen washcloth to no avail, and obviously the tylenol is not helping anymore-- it seems to take effect at the 2 or 3 hour mark, and by then it's wearing off anyway so by the 4 hour mark she is frantic again.

Any thoughts on what I can do to help her with the pain?? The nurse at the pediatricians told me it was fine to give her tylenol, but I don't feel comfortable pumping her with the max dose every 4 hours all day, every day... has anyone tried teething tablets or baby orajel with any success?
