It will sound crazy, but are you willing to pump after her MOTN feed? I always found my supply highest around that time (I guess hormones peak around 2am). I am not a great sleeper and often found it difficult to get back to sleep anyway so I was able to get a good pump session, read a little bit, and wind down a little before going back to sleep. Unfortunately my experience was that nothing I tried increased my supply after about 2-3 mos old, I tried acupuncture, power pumping, eating more, drinking more water, brewers yeast, lactation cookies, all sorts of supplements, milk tea, etc. Oh one other small thing might be to drink a whole bunch of water when you're feeding overnight. Hopefully it wouldn't make you wake up to pee since you'll be up with LO just a few hours later anyway. Good luck!

@LaughLines: Would it be possible at all if you put your LO to bed at 8pm, so the last feed is at 7:30pm, and you pump again at 9pm? Just give it a try, maybe she will still stay asleep until 1-3am :-) I remember when my LO was 4.5 months, bedtime was 7pm, and he would stay asleep until 2-4am! This way you won't have to stay up just because you have to pump...

@LaughLines: I agree what others have said....after my son dropped his last night feeding (really a dream feed around 11), I kept pumping then-and I'm still doing it at 8 months. It's a bit of a pain at this point, and I'm looking to drop it soonish, but it's REALLY helped build up my freezer supply. Good luck!

A lot of the time i go to bed after her 9pm, too, but i guess staying up to pump at 10:30 would also help with my goal of doing more.... I'll get to hang out with dh and if i do go out with friends i won't be the party pooper thats falling asleep early

Following! I never quite hammered out a good schedule with LO1 and I'm expecting again in 2 weeks, hoping to have a bit more freedom with LO2.

If your last feed is 9pm, and she won't get up until between 1-3am again, I would pump again at 10:30pm for 15 mins on each side. Doing it constantly every night it will increase your milk production at that time for a full feed.

Back then our last feed was around 6:30-7pm. I pumped at around 9pm for 1 full session, then LO wakes and feed either once or twice at 2am and 4am. My freezer stash grew to be huge because the 9pm pump yield 5 oz each time!

Personally I hated / dreaded that I had to pump after a breastfeeding session. Breasfeeding was awesome because I didn't have to worry about washing anything, but if I had to pump right after, I would have to worry about getting up and juggle with the pumps and bottles and the washing while my baby could be crying because of acid reflux and needed to be held up right or just all around fussy. I just can't.

Two ideas. One is to pump after her last feed before you go to bed. That with the morning pump should help! Second is I heard you can pump just 5 or so min after each feeding to get a little to save and add it up together. That way you don't drastically increase your supply. Alrhoufh it sounds like
You want to do that?

I'm a SAHM and exclusively breastfeed. I'm rarely away from DD, but I would like a little more freedom and increasing my freezer stash would help make me feel like I could do things a little more often.

Right now I pump every morning after her 6am feeding and I only get around 1 - 1.5 ounces total both sides. This is after she has eaten. She eats usually ever 3ish hours all day and once overnight (around 9pm is her last feed, then usually once between 1am and 3am, then her morning one at 6am).

I put brewers yeast on my food pretty frequently (just sprinkle it on whatever i'm eating) and the past couple days i've also been eating more flax seed. I try to drink a lot of water, too.

I would like to pump more than 1-1.5 ounces a day.... how should I get more without disturbing her normal feeding schedule?

ETA: DD is 4.5 months old
